My sincere condolences on the loss of Coach Rowe. I was on his first high school team at Avondale High School (Georgia) in 1963-64. Under his excellent leadership, we made it to the semifinals of the state tournament where we lost to LaGrange. Thanks to his coaching and encouragement, I received a scholarship to play basketball at Davidson College in North Carolina. I remember him for his constant support and help during my senior year. I can still remember some of his pre-game talks, and how our team could not wait to get on the court to play our opponent that night. He always seemed to know exactly what needed to be said to bring out the best in us. I last saw him in Athens, Georgia when he came to speak to the UGA basketball banquet in 1974 or 1975. We had a really nice visit. I wish we had had more since then. He was a wonderful man and friend, and I know he will be greatly missed.
