JACQUELINE DeROCHE Obituary

Published by San Diego Union-Tribune on Feb. 10, 2013.
DeROCHE, JACQUELINE DIANA (GERVAIS) March 9, 1931 to February 4, 2013 Jacquie was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to parents Joseph Emile Gervais and Diana (Duhamel) Gervais. Deeply moved by the death of her mother when she was just 8 years old, Jacquie lived her life focused on faith and family. Jacquie graduated from Saint Francis Xavier's Academy in Providence, Rhode Island, and met her husband Ed at the age of 18 while both worked at Finkelstein's Manufacturing Company. When Ed returned from military service, the couple married and were together for 59 years. Through household moves from Rhode Island to Connecticut to Milwaukee and finally San Diego, Jacquie guided her six children through life and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and wonderful "grandma" to her ten grandchildren. Of Jacquie's many talents, interior decorating brought the most joy and she was a notorious antique collector. She was a residential real estate agent in Milwaukee, worked for the University of San Diego organizing summer camps, and volunteered at Our Mother of Confidence Church in University City. She leaves a legacy of love and kindness for all of us to follow. Jacquie is survived by her husband Edward F. DeRoche; children Diane Johnson (Dan) of Raliegh, NC; Susan DeRoche of San Diego; Dr. Michael DeRoche (Paula) of Nashville, TN; Mark DeRoche (Michelle) of Los Angeles; Carolyn Walker (Don) of San Diego; and David DeRoche (Katrina) of San Diego; brothers Ray Gervais of Forestdale, RI; and Guy Gervais of Pascoag, RI; and sister Denise Bazinet of Easthampton, MA; grandchildren Jackie, Steve, Nicole, Emily, Natalie, Olivia, Catherine, Thomas, Luke and Patrick; and great-grandson Frank. She was predeceased by her parents; stepmother Ann Gervais; and brother Ronnie Gervais. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 25th, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Mother of Confidence Church, 3131 Governor Drive, San Diego 92122. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Relief Service (CRS) or the Alzheimer's Association.

Don and Carolyn Walker and children. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your mother/mother-in-law. My prayers have been with your family for many months after Pat Walker told me to keep her in my prayers. I didn't know her but I'm sure she was such a wonderful wife and mom who loved her large family with much caring, love and affection. Prayers go to your dad and the rest of your family. Praise God for her as she is now with him.
