Jacqueline Garrad Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jan. 10 to Jan. 11, 2014.
Jacqueline(nee Macquarie) Garrad January 1, 1936 - December 19, 2013 Born and raised in Vancouver, Jacquie lived her entire life in the Vancouver area. She knew poverty at a young age after her father died, leaving her mother to support the family. Jacquie attended, but didn't graduate high school, working to help out. She married Norval, her husband of 57 years, and continued to work until he attained his C.A. Degree. They made their home in Coquitlam, where she had 3 children and made the decision to dedicate herself to family. Jacquie was a wonderful mother, mixing kindness with discipline. She loved the simple times spent with family, talking, laughing, playing games, and dancing. She loved reading, music, travelling (mostly cruising), was a good sport, and a sharp card player. Jacquie was taken from us suddenly and much too soon. Stricken with lung cancer (as was her mother), she fought hard, but succumbed quickly and mercifully, holding Norval's hand, surrounded by family. She is predeceased by her mother Caroline and sister Patricia, and survived by her husband Norval, children Jeffrey (Alison), Laura (John), Trisha (Lloyd), and her grandchildren Taylor, Ross, and Duncan. She is deeply missed, and greatly loved. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 on Sunday January 19 where she loved to be - facing the ocean, at Beecher Place in Crescent Beach,12160 Beecher St.,South Surrey. The family thanks the staff at Peace Arch Hospital for their excellent, supportive care. Donations to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation / BC Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
