Paula Jean Beeson Alvey, a resident of Burkburnett, joined our Lord on December 23, 2020. She was born in Electra, TX on August 25, 1933. Paula was a woman before her time. She was a career woman, a super-Mom, and a nature-lover.
She was a super-Mom to her three daughters before the word super-Mom was coined. She worked a full-time job, made dinner every night, sewed costumes, and hosted parties. She grew flowers and vegetables. Whenever her daughters were displaying their talents, Paula was close by, attending softball and football games, bowling tournaments and skating competitions. She loved animals. There was always a family dog at the Alvey House, and she also embraced the stream of creatures her daughters brought home: multiple stray dogs, cats, fish, a pony, hamsters, chameleons and even a racoon. Whether she was haggling with a car dealer or teaching her students at the base, Paula lived her life unafraid to use her strong independent voice. She passed her strength and independence along to her daughters and granddaughters.
At Electra High School she was the cute twirler, nicknamed “Kandy.” She gained her business smarts early by clerking at her grandparents’ grocery store, where she eventually met the love of her life, Joe Alvey. She found her career footing as a civilian finance instructor at Shepard Air Force Base. She gained experience and the respect of her colleagues by developing new curricula and she travelled to Germany twice on behalf of the base.
Upon retirement, Paula and Joe travelled and continued to embrace nature. They became campground hosts in New Mexico and Colorado. They travelled to Scotland, France, Indonesia and Alaska, unafraid to dive into the culture at every new locale.
Throughout her life she kept her hands and mind busy. She was a voracious reader. She loved to play bridge and 42. In her later years, she was an avid and talented quilter. She joined the Red River Quilter’s Guild and was active in neighborhood quilting groups.
Paula was pre-deceased by her father Paul Beeson, her mother Dee Barmore, her stepfather MN (Bill) Barmore, her son-in-law RJ Logan, and her husband of over 50 years, Joe Alvey.
Paula’s wit and wisdom will be missed by her three daughters, Dede Logan of Grandfield, Oklahoma; Kay (Dale) Pittman of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; and Tiffany Herring of Burkburnett, Texas. Her practical advice will be missed by her seven grandchildren: Jody Logan, Jamie Logan, Justen (Renee) Pittman, Aly Arnold, Tristen Herring, Jake (Barrie) Herring, Josh Herring, her great-grandsons Tanner (Mercedez) Potts, Remington Leaper, Alexander Arnold, Miles Pittman and Gabe Herring, and her two great-great-grandchildren, Paisley and Clayton Potts.
Visitation is Monday evening 7-8pm at Owens and Brumley funeral home in Burkburnett, with graveside services 10am Tuesday at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
