Services for James Douglas Adams, 64, of Whitehouse, TX, will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 10:00 am at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler, TX with his nephew, Pastor Kelly Adams officiating, followed by a graveside service at Whitehouse Cemetery in Whitehouse, TX under the direction of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
James passed away on April 27th, 2022. He was born on May 25th, 1957, in Tyler, TX to John Frank Adams Jr and Mary Frances Adams. James is the youngest of 5 boys and was best friends with his brothers all his life. He was raised and lived all his life in Whitehouse, TX and attended Whitehouse Assembly of God Church. He joined the US Army at the age of 17 and served in the Panama Canal as a sharpshooter. He married his wife, Dorothea, on November 15th, 1985, and has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. After his army duty was complete, he worked with a master mason and became a talented and accomplished bricklayer. He then served a four-year apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Tyler Junior College where he became a licensed journeyman electrician in 1986 and later earned master electrician status. He worked several jobs through the union including the maintenance staff at Carrier Corporation, the Newtron oil refinery, and building the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas, before retiring in 2020. His true love was gardening, a pastime he did daily for decades and full-time in retirement. He, along with his brothers and nephews, farmed the land on his parents’ estate to grow many crops over the years – potatoes, tomatoes, onions, peppers, squash – that he loved to share with others. He is a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed and remembered fondly for his white trucks, signature outfit (Carhart black shirt, wrangler jeans, boots, and cap), good cooking, humorous songs and stories, detailed memory, and love of old westerns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Patsy Ruth Wilson, and brothers-in-law Gary Cowan and Tim Wilson. He is survived by his wife Dorothea Adams, children Patrick & Zoe Matthews, Shane & Jessica Hightower, Derek & Sarah Schoenrock, and John & Kassidy Adams, and his grandchildren Adyson Adams, Tinley Matthews, Weston Matthews, and Mary Beth Schoenrock, and bonus children and grandchild Cameron, Haley, & Kynlee Rogers. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Bruce & Trudy Adams, Richard & Virginia Adams, Steve Adams, Grover Adams, Darlene Wilson Shue, Patricia Cowan, and Shelly Wilson McKee. He has many beloved nieces and nephews – Sananda & Jennifer Perrin, Eric & Ali Shue, Chuck Corder, John Cody & Rebecca Cowan, Justin & Lindsay Wilson, Jami Wilson, Mark Adams, Richie & Angie Morgan, Travis & Jennifer Potter, Kenny & Krista Adams, and Kelly & Lori Adams. He also leaves behind his much-loved dog Prissie.
Pallbearers will be his sons and nephews: John Adams, Patrick Matthews, Derek Schoenrock, Shane Hightower, Mark Adams, and Kenny Adams.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers Bruce "Bo" Adams, Richard "Ritter" Adams, Steve "Big Sool" Adams, and Grover "Buck" Adams.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 – 7 pm on Wednesday, May 4th at Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler, TX.

Our condolences to all James’ family and close friends. He was a great guy and I remember him as being very funny. He was our WHS school mate. He also worked with my mom and sister at Carrier. (Lois Hearon in Maintenance)
