James Beatty

James Beatty, 80, of Mannington passed away Wednesday (May 21, 2008) at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Mannington, a son of the late Russell G. and Margaret Christine Crim Beatty. Jim was a compressor station engineer for the Equitable Gas Co. at Mobley, having retired with 32 years service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. He graduated from Mannington High School in 1945.Jim was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist in Mannington, where he sang in the choir. He also sang in cantatas with the Community Chorus, and was a member of the Charles Milan American Legion Post 40 in Mannington and the Elks Lodge No. 388 in Mannington. He loved gardening, lawn work and visiting with people. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Pauline “Polly” McNeill Beatty; three children and their spouses, James “Jeff” and Ava Beatty of Morgantown, Nancy and Paul Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Deborah and John Walker of Mentor, Ohio; four grandchildren, Doug McLain, Joy Johnson, Josiah Johnson and Joshua Beatty; a great grandson, Nathaniel James Johnson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Betty Beatty, of Canton, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Clarksburg Street, Mannington with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Mr. Beatty will lie in state from noon until 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to hutsonfunerals@aol.com.
