James Bell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 31 to Feb. 8, 2023.
James Cooper Bell, "Jimmy," (45), of Appomattox, Virginia passed peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023. Jimmy grew up in Manassas, Virginia. Jimmy was a local attorney in Farmville, Virginia and served the community practicing mainly criminal defense and family law. Jimmy graduated from Longwood College in 1999 with high honors and serving as the president of his fraternity TKE, with whom he shared deep bonds and lasting brotherhood. After college, Jimmy attended Regent University School of Law and received a full scholarship after his 1L year for ranking 2nd overall in his entire law school class. He was fully devoted to mastering the law and was a member of Regent's prestigious Law Review Journal. After law school, Jimmy came back to Farmville where he founded his law practice, most recognized for being situated right on Main Street in downtown Farmville. He had stints as a Longwood University adjunct professor, a volunteer firefighter at Rice Fire Station, an aspiring pilot of a single prop plane, a district champion wrestler in high school at 103 pounds, and played guitar at his church, New Life. Above any accolade or hobby, Jimmy's greatest joy was his two children James, 16, and Natalie, 14. Jimmy took care of everyone else before himself, even yielding to the betterment of his personal health. He was a giver of whatever you needed, a helper, a problem-solver, a brilliant legal mind, a devoted father, and follower of Jesus. He is survived by his parents, Rod and Athene Bell, his brother and sister-in-law George and Hannah Bell, and his two children James and Natalie, and their mother Beth Burchett Bell.

A celebration of life service will be held in his honor on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia at 2:00pm.

I met Mr. Bell my Sophomore year of college, when I hired him as my attorney for a matter I was involved in. Little did I know from that initial meeting, he would go on to become a great friend, mentor, leader, and influencer in my life. He always had so much care and interest in my life and what I had going on and I always appreciated his advice. I was devastated to hear of his sudden passing. My prayers are with his family this Christmas season.

Jimmy gave me the opportunity of doing an internship with him my senior year of college. I grew to admire his selflessness; always putting others before himself. It didn't matter who. He was a true servant of his clients, family, and God. After my internship, he was always there for advice and a sound mind on a complicated situation. I will value his wisdom and lessons taught for the rest of my life. Rest easy Jimmy.

I was Jimmy's legal secretary. It would have been 13 yrs next month since I first started working with him. Not only was he the best boss but I also considered him family. He became a friend of my family & I long before I came to work for him. He was very kindhearted & always put others before himself. The world has lost a wonderful guy & He will be greatly missed.

Jack Moore and Family, "A Tribute to Jimmy Bell".

James Cooper Bell (1977-2023)

"Gone too soon, James Cooper Bell left a lasting impact with his love for his children, his passion for family law, and his musical talent on the guitar. Though the sadness of his loss is overwhelming, we'll always remember the laughter and joy he brought into our lives."

It's never easy to lose a loved one, especially when they are taken too soon. James Cooper Bell was a remarkable young man who touched the lives of many with his kindness, compassion, and love for his family. He was a devoted father to James and Natalie, and his passion for practicing family law showcased his dedication to helping others.

Jimmy had a zest for life that was contagious. He loved the simple things, like strumming on his guitar, and his smile could light up a room. He had a way of making people feel special, and his kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.
Although we are grieving the loss of Jimmy, we take comfort in the memories we have of him. His laughter, his love for his children, and his unwavering commitment to doing what was right, will always be a source of inspiration for us.

In the face of this tragedy, it can be difficult to find the words to express our sadness, but at the same time, we can't help but smile when we think of the good times we had with Jimmy. His humor and quick wit brought joy to everyone he met, and his presence will be deeply missed.
We send our love and condolences to Jimmy´s family and friends during this difficult time. It's important to remember that Jimmy´s legacy will live on through his children, James and Natalie, and the impact he had on the lives of those he met.

Although we are heartbroken over the loss of Jimmy, we find solace in the memories we have of him. He will always be in our hearts, and his spirit will live on through the people he touched.
We hope that in the midst of this tragedy, Jimmy´s family can find peace and comfort in the love and support of those around them. Jimmy was an incredible man, and he will be deeply missed. But, his memory will always be with us, and we will never forget the joy and laughter he brought into our lives.
Rest in peace, James Cooper Bell. You will be forever loved and remembered. God Bless and keep you

Jimmy was a one of kind person that based his life around serving others. I spent the majority of my four years at LU with Jimmy. Jimmy was the definition of consistency. Jimmy was always Jimmy....smart, charismatic, kind, and funny. I will cherish the fun we had together and the way he treated others. I wish to be half the man he is and I will be telling stories about Jimmy till the day I see him again. Until then I will miss him deeply.
