JAMES WILLIAM "J.W."
Age 93, died April 28, 2014. Born July 25, 1920, in Homewood, a son of the late George and Maddie (Meck) Berrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Blair) Berrett; son, Steven Edward "Ed" Berrett; brothers, George and Victor Berrett; and sisters, Isabel Murphy and Inis Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Nancy M. (Auman) Berrett; sons, James C. (Tracy) Berrett and Drummond B. (Virginia) Berrett; grandchildren, Angela Lindsey, Sharyn (Michael) Wilton, Brandon (LeeAnn) Ribic, Danielle Berrett, Deborah (John) McGarr and Edward (Corinne) Berrett; great-grandchildren, Alan Lindsey, Alana Lindsey, Michaela Wilton, Michael Wilton, Jr., Anthony Wilton and Edward Berrett; also many nieces and nephews. He had worked Mesta Machine Company for 37 years. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the FORGIE SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Broadway, East McKeesport, 412-823-8083, where Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday.

I remember "Jimmy," as his mother called him, as one of the boys next door to the house where I grew up on James Street in Park Terrace. In fact my sister, Catherine Kelly, married Jimmy's brother Vic. Cathy passed away last year, but often spoke fondly of Jimmy and his entire family. My wife and I send our condolences to his family and friends. He was truly one of the "Greatest Generation."
