James personified the officials official. Having devoted much of his life to the challenging field of arbitration, he was a gentlleman and a true professional that brought a deep respect and solid perspective to the art of officiating. Most of all I was proud to call Jim a friend and always enjoyed his sense of humility and sincere dedication to the art of officiating. Peace be with you Jim

I worked with Jim when he worked at the City of Dallas. I got to know him better in 1984 when I was fortunate enough to get in two evening accounting classes that he taught at El Centro Community College, Dallas. He was an excellent teacher, always fair, easy to understand, eager to share his knowledge & made accounting easy. THANK YOU JIM! Heartfelt condolences to his family. May He rest in God's Holy Peace.

Jim Blackwood (JB); a wonderful man. His subtle humor and warmth always made him so approachable. His presence was highly sought-after by everyone at camps, clinics, and academies. He was always willing to share his knowledge and wisdom with anyone. Descanse en paz, JB.

I met Jim when I was a young football official in the Dallas Football Officials Association. As I moved up in officiating experience, I was fortunate enough to be hired by the Southland Football Conference. Jim became the Supervisor of Officials and I worked for him for approximately 8 years. When the NFL inquired about my experience and qualifications Jim was instrumental in my being hired by the NFL as an on-field football official - a career that lasted 23 years. Jim was a brilliant football mind and a true mentor and friend. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

Jim was a dear friend. As many others have said, I would be nothing in the world of college football were it not for his mentoring and influence. I will truly miss our weekly calls - just checking up on one another.
Rest in peace my dear Friend. May God bless his family in this time of sorrow.

Jim was a friend, a boss, a leader and a compassionate person who worried about everyone. I enjoyed our talks, our meetings and his ability to listen to everyone’s thoughts. Jim’s videos were not only constructive but a total piece of art. He will be missed by me and so many others. God Bless Jim Blackwood.

The college football officiating world will never be the same. Jim was the best at his trade as a leader and the most fair person we officials ever worked for as a Supervisor.
How ever good one could argue that Jim was as a leader of football officials, he was all the more a great person. The Texas charm was unmatched. Never once did Jim give you the impression he was too busy to chat, whether it be about football, life or what ever was on one's mind.
It breaks my heart that I will not be able to join 100's of friends that will remember Jim's great life, but know he is looking down on us all.
Blessing Dee. Know that all who loved Jim are praying for your comfort and sweet memories.

To the family of Jim Blackwood. Jim was not just a mentor to me in my football officiating career, but extended all of his expertise and knowledge to all officials. I will always be forever indebted to Jim for believing in me and giving me my start in D-1 football officiating. All my success is owed to Jim. Jim was an honorable man who always looked out for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all!

I first met Jim at the Big Sky conference for new replay officials in February of 2015. My fellow new replay officials had to privilege to learn from, and become friends with one great man! Jim was a fantastic mentor, and even a better person. I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from, and meet Jim, and spend time with him at a few other Replay conferences. Without getting the opportunity to learn from Jim, I would not be where I am in the world of college football replay. Jim,. may you rest in peace. God has received one great football man, and a true gentlemen. We will all miss you.

Back in February 2015. I was on my way to officiate a Charter High girls and boys game when I received a call from Jim inviting me to join the PAC-12. I was grateful for that day. Things happen for a reason. Jim did not hire me when he was overseeing the WAC.
Rest in Power Jim.

Our football world lost an ICON! He was a dear friend and mentor to me. I couldn't begin to count the number of lives he touched and influenced through officiating. To his wife Dee and all of his family, I pray for the Lord to grant you peace and comfort! I'm going to miss Jim Blackwood but I will endeavor to help carry his mission of helping other officials!

Jim knew the Lord and walked the talk. I enjoyed having Jim sit in with some of
our pregame bible studies. He always had a solid faith and exhibited his faith
in all he did. Football was the means for us to gather and share life especially
how we were to minister to those we were given the privilege of serving as officials.
He was a great teammate on and off the field and I'm sure as his films are reviewed
by the eternal referee he will get high marks. May the Lord be with his family and
all those who loved him

Jim Blackwood was far more than just our "boss." He expected, and accepted nothing less than, excellence from each of us. But, more importantly he was a friend that cared about us a people. In addition to the professional expectations, he also encouraged us to truly enjoy what we did, and those with whom we did it. He understood the importance of the personal relationships that we could, and did, develop with those with whom we "we went to war" with every Saturday. Those relationships, as well as his exceptional leadership, made us the best we could be.
We all owe so much to Mr. Blackwood, that we could never repay, except to do our best each week, and make him proud.
Mr. Blackwood was simply the best.
He was loved by all of us. We will miss him, but his legacy will endure for a very, very long time.

Our time and conversations together will live on forever. You didn't tell people how to live, you showed people how to live. You will be missed but always remembered. I will miss those Christmas and Thanksgiving telephone calls.

He found the goodness in everyone. He was always loyal. Every time I experienced success with a bowl assignment he always called me up to congratulate me as he was so proud of me. He did this to everyone who had ever worked for him. I owe my success to him as he arranged for my move to the Big 12 from the WAC. He will be missed. Condolences to his family.
