James Branham Obituary

BRISTOL, Va. – James Barber Branham, age 84, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Bristol Nursing Home.
He was a native of Haysi, Va., and the son of the late John Wesley and Nary Silcox Branham.
He was a veteran of World War II, discharged as a radioman third class in the Navy, serving in the Pacific. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon (three stars), American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon (One Star). He retired from Ingersol-Rand as an engineer. James was known for his innovative manufacturing engineering techniques. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycle-riding and was a devoted grandfather.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Narcia Ramey Branham; two sons, Jeffery L. Branham and wife Betty of Bristol Virginia, and Danny W. Branham and wife Susan of Santa Paula, Calif.; one daughter, Catherine B. Shumate and husband Dan of Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Jeffery Branham of Morristown, Tenn., Stephanie Lovins of Bristol Virginia, Tessa Manzie of Gulfport, Miss., and Sam Shumate of Bristol Virginia; seven great-grandchildren, Anna, Katie and Sarah Branham, Joanna Lovins and Jim and Joe Manzie; beloved niece and nephews, Wanda, Wayne and Freddie, sisters, Utsie Sutherland and Georgia Ann Hay; and brother, Everett Branham.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, with the Rev. Les Ketron officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard, with entombment to follow. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Akard Funeral Home, with a Masonic service to follow visitation. In addition, a seaside memorial service will be held by the family in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 207 N. Boone St., Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604.
