James Doyle Campbell

SEVEN LAKES, N.C. -- James Doyle Campbell, 79, of Seven Lakes, passed Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

Mr. Campbell was born April 10, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Michael J. Campbell and Martha Fulk Campbell.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Southern Pines, N.C. with the Monsignor Frank J. Hendrick officiating. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at Moose Lodge No. 1082, Mogadore, Ohio. Rite of committal will be held later for the immediate family.

Mr. Campbell grew up in Akron and played semi-pro hockey for the Akron stars. He later served his country during the Korean War as a Navy Seabee. He retired with Roadway Express after 31 years of service. Mr. Campbell based his life around his strong Christian faith, good work ethic and moral family values. He was a kind man who could start a conversation with anyone he met no matter what the circumstance.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Pollock Campbell; three sons, Michael Louis (Suzanne) Campbell of Mooresville, N.C., James Douglas Campbell of Akron, Ohio, and Mark Allan Campbell of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Judith Campbell (Peter) Kantorowski of Essex Junction, Vt.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; and four nephews. Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Campbell Mazzagatti.
