James Caswell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 24, 2025.
James Marvin Caswell III was born on April 15, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia to Carolyn and Jim Caswell Jr. The oldest of six children, Jim lived a full and blessed life. He was a grateful man that loved his life, his family, his career and his church.

Jim attended E. Rivers Elementary School, Northside High and North Springs High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with honors in 1977.

In 1978, Jim married the love of his life Robbie Smith, his high school sweetheart. Over their 46 years of marriage, Robbie was his best friend and biggest supporter. Together they joyfully raised three children and were blessed with nine grandchildren.

As a founding partner at Peachtree Planning in 1987, Jim had a long and successful career. Jim took tremendous pleasure in servicing his clients' needs and never really planned to retire. He consistently received professional honors including thirty-three consecutive years within the Guardian Leaders Club and/or Presidents Council. He took great pride in Peachtree Planning's growth and enjoyed mentoring young agents.

Jim deeply loved his church, Northside United Methodist. Throughout his years of service, he enjoyed chairing almost every board and committee at Northside. He loved his Bible studies and cherished the relationships that came from his men's groups. Jim gave a lot to his church, but he always felt that the church gave him more than he could ever repay.

Jim's greatest love was his family. He always felt he had hit a grand slam in marrying Robbie. He admired her many talents on a daily basis and appreciated her unwavering support. Being a father to his three children was a responsibility he took very seriously and with great pride. Always a teacher, he was present and supportive of anything his children did. Jim was so thrilled that his children married the spouses they did; he loved them each as his own. Lastly, Jim's greatest pleasure was being a grandfather. He lit up with pride and joy anytime he saw his grandchildren. He loved them with every ounce of his being, and they loved their "Pop" right back. Spending time at Lake Rabun with his entire family was his absolute favorite pastime.

Jim is survived by his wife Robbie; his children Jim IV (Laura Leigh), Eleanor Simonsen (Eric) and Tyler (Maggie); his grandchildren Paul, Owen, Carter, Jim V, Anna, Gillis, Ward, Randall and Louise; his mother Carolyn and siblings Charlie (Betsy), Tommy (Suzanne), Lee (Nancy), Lynda Guthrie (Keith) and Holly King (David).

A memorial service will be held in his honor at Northside United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 27th at 11am. There will be a reception in the Faith & Arts Center immediately following the service. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northside Church at 2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30305

I always enjoyed the few moments shared with Jim. I found him to be a quiet man but whose actions spoke like the Lion's roar. God loves a cheerful giver and I am sure Jim is reaping his reward in the presence of the living God.
Amen!

Jim will endure as an eternal memory. He was unfailingly supportive of me, my family and our long, long connection. Of course, that support was also true for his entire family, but especially how he drew you in and made you feel as if you were the only person in a crowd that he was interested to be talking with. Thank you Robbie for sharing Jim with everyone.

Jim was my insurance and business 401K provider for something like 45 years. His knowledge of insurance was over the top. His honesty and ethics were beyond reproach. We had so many conversations over the years. I will miss him.
What can I say? The extended Caswell family is legendary. RIP, Jim.
