James Chaboudy Obituary

James Aaron Chaboudy "Jim"

Jim Chaboudy, 56, formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 after a courageous struggle with heart disease while awaiting a heart transplant. He resided in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Jim was an outstanding athlete at Cuyahoga Falls High School, class of 1977, where he played baseball and football. As the quarterback on the football team, Jim and his two best friends, Bill Nettling and Sam Barbone, helped lead the Black Tigers to a league championship with big victories over Akron St. Vincent and Warren Western Reserve resulting in one of the best records in school history.

Jim attended Hiram College for one year before moving to Florida thirty years ago. Jim worked as a manager for the Winn-Dixie grocery chain. For the past several years he was employed by the United States Postal Service. He was active in his church and spent much of his spare time traveling with his daughter Heather, a heart transplant recipient, to various transplant Olympics around the country.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Richard and his younger brother, Greg. Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda; daughters, Amber (Dustin) Incorvia and Heather Chaboudy; mother, Joan Chaboudy; and brother, Rick Chaboudy, both of Palm Harbor, Florida; sister, Karen Showers of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and brothers, Rusty (Kelly) Chaboudy of Stow, Ohio and Tom Chaboudy of Green, Ohio.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned in Palm Harbor, Florida. Donations in Jim's honor can be made out to the American Heart Association or the Cuyahoga Falls Alumni Association.

Jim and I were best friends in high school. As life goes, we graduated and moved on. For some reason, we fail to keep in touch with the people who made us who we are today. I am ever grateful that Jim & I were able to re-connect this past December, via Facebook. We talked on the phone several times. It was very humbling when I learned of the extent of the challenges he has faced since our time together. I was amazed - yet not surprised- and reduced to tears. Despite many challenges, Jim was always upbeat and positive- with a strong spirit. He had not changed a bit. In fact, just the Jim I will always remember.
My heart goes out to his wife and children, who he raved about-- It is my misfortune I never got to meet you.
Jim will forever be in my heart for the person, forever friend , and the good memories we will always share.

My condolences to Jim's family. We were classmates at Falls High. I didn't know him well, but I remember him being very nice, and a great athlete. He was also, apparently, a devoted family man. I am very sorry for your loss. May your memories comfort you. Enjoy heaven, Jim. We will see you again someday.

My sympathy goes out to all of the Chaboudy family. I was so very sad to learn that Jim had died. Our families were connected for many years through Little League Baseball and Pee Wee Football. I still remember my brother Bill and Jim walking to school or to practice. They always looked like Mutt and Jeff, and they were such very good friends. I'm hoping that all of you can help each other through this very sad time. Maryann Nettling Betz

To friends and family of Jim Chaboudy,

Jim and I were classmates at CFHS, the graduating class of 1977. Although we didn't socialize together, everybody knew Jim Chaboudy for his great personality, smile, and athleticism. I am so sadden for your loss of a fun guy who made everyone feel happy just to be near him and part of the same class.

My deepest sympathy to all. It is my belief that Jim is now an angel in heaven looking over his daughter, family, and friends.

God Bless,
Kim Gerdes, Cuy. Falls

My deepest sympathies to the entire Chaboudy family. Jimmy and I were practically inseparable in our youth as our families were intertwined by our fathers Dick Chaboudy and Ray Nettling coaching Little League Baseball and helping to found the Little Black Tigers Pee Wee Footbal organization in the 60's. Growing up only a block away, we were classmates from grade school through high school. I moved to AZ and Jimmy to FL to start our own lives and families but he will always remain as one of my dearest friends. I loved Jimmy like a brother and I will always remember him. Hard to believe his heart gave out, because while Jimmy was small in stature, he had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever met.Let's all gather strength from the many memories we all cherish to help us through this tough time. God, Dick and Ray must have needed a QB on that team they continue to build in heaven.RIP Jimmy and God Bless the Chaboudy family.
