There is an old black and white photograph in the main hallway of Woodroffe Avenue Public School. It's a portrait of the first teaching staff of the newly opened WAPS, circa 1949, where my children attend school. There are only around 15 staff in the photograph and most of them are older dour looking ladies. But middle back row there's a young athletic looking guy grinning broadly. It says his name is Jim Craig, gym teacher. The custodian at WAPS knows the photograph too and we've talked about it, wondering if Jim is still alive; he's the only one who'd have been young enough. I've been intrigued for a long time and finally found time to google Jim's name. Took a while but here I am, better late than never. Our condolences to your family. It's an endearing picture and he must have been a wonderful teacher.

I was a student at D Roy Kennedy Public School between 1977-1979 and have fond memories of our most respected principal. To this day I still remember when he taught us about "attitude, behaviour and work habits" My deepest sympathies to the entire family.

Dear Diane & Gayle,
Sincere condolences to you both and to your extended Craig family. I wish the miles weren't so many and that I could be there in person to show my respect and be a part of the special tribute in honor of your Dad. I have many cherished memories of moments in time shared with you and your wonderful parents, and "Uncle Jim's" warmth and huge smile are a part of them all.
May you find a special sense of peace knowing that your parents have reunited and that they will live on in the hearts and souls of you and your children...

Diane and Gayle - Deepest condolences to you and your families at this difficult time. I was in Grades 7 and 8 at S.S. No. 9, Nepean, (1 room, 8 grades) for Jim's first 2 years of teaching. We used to joke that we were the secret to his successful teaching career. We kept in touch periodically for all these years and it was always a pleasure to see him and your mom. Jim and Ruth visited at my family home even before they were married. How lucky we were to have him as a teacher and friend.
He was always so proud of his family.

Diane and Gayle, My condolences and hugs to you both. Your dad's visits to my office in Kanata will always be some of my favorite memories at that office. Jim always had words of wisdom and advice to give, because he always genuinely cared about people! Your dad will always be remembered by all as one of those people you were blessed to have known.

Our condolences to Jim & Ruth's children and grandchildren! I was Secretary at J. H. Putman Intermediate School during Jim's time there as Principal. He was the most organized guy I have ever worked for! My husband and I remember a staff party at their cottage. I'm sure family had many happy times there. Rest in peace, Jim and Ruth!
