James Peter Curtis: A Life Well-Lived, A Legacy Cherished

James Peter Curtis, fondly known as "Jim" or simply "Pop" to his beloved grandsons, was born on July 28, 1946, in Hackensack, NJ, and peacefully passed away on August 4, 2024, in Boonton, NJ, surrounded by the love of his family. At 78, Jim left a lasting legacy of warmth, wit, and an indomitable zest for life, enriching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lynne Anne Curtis (nee Fitzpatrick); his son Peter James Curtis II and daughter-in-law Jossette; his daughter Jennifer Curtis and son-in-law Anthony Davi; and his cherished grandsons, Luke Davi, 18, James Peter Curtis II, 16, Declan Curtis, 12, and Jake Curtis Davi, 12. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter James Curtis I and Joan Votsis Curtis.

His story was a rich tapestry of love, adventure, and loyalty. He married his college sweetheart, Lynne Anne Fitzpatrick, on September 28, 1968, in Albany, NY. Their 56-year marriage was a testament to enduring love, friendship, laughter and shared dreams. Together, they raised and loved their two children in a warm, loving, lively, music filled home in Mountain Lakes, NJ, instilling values of kindness, joy, and resilience. Jim took immeasurable pride in his family, cherishing every moment spent with his wife, kids and grandkids, who were a constant source of light and laughter.

A graduate of Hackensack High School and the University of Missouri, where he earned a degree in Journalism, Jim's career began writing for Mercedes-Benz of North America, blending his love for luxury cars with a gift for storytelling. His role took him around the globe and eventually led him into the automotive world full-time, where he found his true calling. He built a reputation for honesty, expertise, and a deep commitment to helping others find their ideal car while mentoring numerous young colleagues at Powers Motor Company, Morristown, NJ and Prestige Motors, Paramus, NJ. In 1996, Jim realized a lifelong dream by founding his own automotive wholesaling business, merging his entrepreneurial spirit with his unparalleled automotive knowledge. Jim became the trusted "Car Guy" for all; from procuring exotic luxury cars for celebrities to helping his hometown friends and neighbors seeking safe first cars for their kids.

Jim's interests extended far beyond his career. A prolific athlete, he embraced sports throughout his life, from softball and skiing to paddle tennis and golf, often alongside friends at Rockaway River Country Club. He cherished his dirt-biking adventures with his son and was known for his skill and strategy in a lively game of gin. A loyal New York sports fan, he passionately supported the Jets, Yankees, and Rangers-teams he cheered on with unwavering enthusiasm.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Jim was a voracious reader, devouring thousands of books in his lifetime. His sharp wit, quick humor, and wordsmithing skills made him the life of any gathering, especially among close friends and family. He could always be counted on for a well-timed quip or a thoughtful word, embodying the true essence of a loyal friend and compassionate listener.

Throughout his life and career, he held a deep appreciation for diversity, valuing the unique stories, cultures, and perspectives of everyone he encountered. He instilled in his children the importance of treating everyone with respect and fairness, a value he modeled both at work and at home. Jim's embrace of inclusivity and his respect for others left a lasting impression on all who knew him, reminding everyone that our differences are to be celebrated and shared.

His warmth extended to all beings, including the many dogs he loved throughout his life. From Jedidiah to George II, his pets were cherished members of the family, providing comfort and companionship, especially during his later years.

A man of faith, Jim found solace in the Greek Orthodox tradition. Though he valued the quiet of his beliefs, his true sanctuary was in the company of loved ones, where he embraced life's simplest yet most profound joys. He imparted wisdom through his actions, teaching those around him to "relax and enjoy life." His legacy of kindness, inclusivity, humor, and unwavering love will forever be treasured by those who knew him.

Jim was a man who truly "lived and let live," a beacon of joy and authenticity. His life will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. His voice, laughter, warmth and love remain with us-a testament to a life beautifully lived. He will be forever loved and missed by many.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Jim's honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eleventh Hour Rescue or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in his memory.

I offer my most heartfelt condolences to Lynn, Peter, and Jenn. Jim was one of my fondest memories of all of the years I worked with Prestige Motors. His unbending integrity, our trip to the auction, our cocktail after work at Ho-Jo's, his daily encouragement and friendship, and his wonderful sense of humor are memories I will always hold dear.
