James Daughton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2015.
On the morning of January 28, 2015 James peacefully slipped away and went home to be with the Lord. James Oscar Daughton was born on September 16, 1937 to the late Christine Martha Lee Daughton in Sparks, Maryland. Christine past away at an early age and James was raised by his Grandparents, the late Frank and Sadie Daughton.

Blind at birth, James attended the Maryland School for the Blind in Overlea, Maryland. At the age of six, James taught himself to play the piano. He learned to master his piano skills while at (MSB) and music became his passion. As an adult James would play for various churches throughout Baltimore and became well known for his talent.

James begin his faith walk at a very early age. He was christened at Stevenson A.M.E. Church, attended Sunday school and as an Adult grew to be a faithful and loyal member of the church. He served in many roles as a member; Steward, Trustee, Lay Speaker, Musician and hosted many programs. To include, Choir Day, Men's Day, and the famous JD's Revival.

James was married in October 1961 to Violet Fallon Daughton who preceded him in death.

James became skilled with his hands. He learned to make belts and baskets. Even though James did not have sight; he had a keen sense of memory. If you gave him your birth date, he could tell you what day of the week you were born. If you needed directions in and around Baltimore; he could give you turn by turn directions, better than today's GPS systems.

James was a true lover of sports. You always saw James with his radio listening to the latest sports team. James loved to travel and did not let his inability to see prevent him from doing anything that he wanted to do. He would go by bus, plane, or train to reach his travel destination. Often times, James would call home to tell his family that he was traveling with the Blind Convention and he'll be home in a few days. He was never afraid to travel alone because he knew GOD was always with him!

James loved and cherished his family. He never forgot his home, family, church and friends. And kept his Faith in GOD to the end….

James leaves to cherish in his memory, one Aunt, Mary D. Nesby, faithful and caring Cousin Bettie L. Weems, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends!

The family will receive friends at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc. 10 W. I remember James when I was a young girl living in Sparks. Every now and than he would get off of the bus in front of our family store. He was always so nice and friendly.
I was amazed in the way he traveled.
Such a kind man, brings back memories of the better world we were in then.
Prayers to all of his family.
