James Davlan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 30, 2025.
Jim Davlan, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 21, 1948, Jim was a man whose quiet strength, generous spirit, and sharp (oftentimes sarcastic) wit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Kathleen Davlan. He is survived by his loving children, Jeffry Davlan and Lindsey and Larry Scheller; and by his treasured grandchildren, Ben, Oliver, and Josie Scheller. He also leaves behind his devoted partner of 10 years, Deb Kolander; his two beloved sisters, Kitty Klobasa and Patti (Don) Jackson; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who considered him family.

For over 40 years, Jim proudly dedicated his life to his career as a respiratory therapist, a role he embraced with compassion, skill, and humility. During his final days, he was cared for by several therapists he had trained, which is a testament to his enduring legacy in the field.

A skilled handyman, Jim had a rare ability to fix just about anything, and he generously used that gift to help his family and friends whenever they needed him. It seemed there was no job he was afraid to tackle, and his fingerprints will be left behind on countless beautiful projects in many loved ones' homes.

Jim was an avid fisherman, and found his greatest peace on the water. Whether casting a line at dawn or canoeing down a quiet river, he felt most alive when he was surrounded by nature. For him, fishing wasn't just about the catch-it was about the beauty of the areas around him, the quiet time to reflect, and the memories created with those he shared it with.

Jim was a passionate music lover and spent his life seeking out incredible live performances. He had the privilege of seeing countless iconic artists in their prime, creating memories with friends and family that brought him immense joy and inspired the amazing playlists he listened to all the way up until his final days.

Jim loved the Bob Marley quote, "Don't live for your presence to be noticed. Live for your absence to be felt." His life embodied this philosophy. He made everyone laugh, faithfully supported his grandkids at their games, and showed up in quiet ways that made a deep and lasting impact on the people he loved. He will be remembered for his steady presence, inappropriate humor, amazing one liners, and deep devotion to his family.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will not be a traditional funeral service. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held this fall to honor his memory and share stories of the man who meant so much to so many. Details will be shared in the coming months. In the meantime, the family encourages you to spend time doing something Jim would have loved. Help a neighbor. Fix something with your hands. Take your dog for a walk. Listen to music that moves your soul. Catch a fish. Tell someone a dirty joke. Build a bonfire. Love your people well.

I loved working when Jim was our respiratory therapist. He knew it all. Plus his sense of humor. If we were having a rough time, he would show up and lighten the day. So many jokes. On my floor, AMCU, we had some ancillary personnel. There was one, I don´t know how he was hired or even what he was supposed to do, but he had trouble with people´s names. He could not pronounce my name. He decided to call me Myrene. Jim went way too far with this, he would call out "MYRENE?" or some other variation of the name. The few times I talked to hm in thee last few years, he would say it again. We also had a friend, Ron, that he let me know how things were until he died. I´m glad that Ron had him as a good friend. I will always remember Jim. Thank you Deb and all of Jim´s family, good memories to all.

Always a part of my life, Uncle Jim had a quick wit and a gift for laughter. He was the one cracking jokes in the middle of the crowd, making life more fun just by being in it. He loved his family deeply-especially his daughter Lindsey and her family, his son Jeff, and his loving partner Deb. The love and loyalty he showed my mom is something I admired. His humor and big heart are the things I´ll miss most. Life won´t be the same without him.
