James Louis “Red� Denny James Louis “Red� Denny 85 of Beckley passed away Monday, August 10, 2009. Born December 19, 1923 in Big Stick, WV, he was the son of the late James Alexander Denny and Etelka Anderson Denny. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife Mary O. Denny; step mother Elsie Denny; sisters Mae Darnell and Lillian Hartsog; granddaughter Virginia Rose Denny. Those left to cherish his memory include sons James Alexander Denny of Beckley, David Brian Denny and wife Kathy of Beckley; brothers William A Denny and wife Christine of Christiansburg, VA, Darius Denny and wife Delores of OH, Venard Denny and wife Betty of Alderson, WV; sisters Merle Darby of OH, Vivian Blevins and husband Falous of Sophia; grandchildren Aaron A. Denny and wife Yvonne of Beckley, Janet R. Denny of Beckley, Nicholas A. Denny and wife Crystal Lynn of Beckley; three great-grandchildren Mary Lynn Denny, Alexandria Ann Denny and Makensie Lynn Denny. James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Beckley. James served his country proudly as a Seaman 1st Class on the U.S.S. Yorktown and USS West Virginia. James was also a WWII Veteran. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Thomas Beckett officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. James Gunnoe, John Cook, Randy McCharity, Edward Thrush, Ronnie Adkins, and Scotty Adkins will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
