James Preston Donohue Jr. passed quietly at home on July 24, 2025 after suffering a long illness.

He was born on March 3, 1940 in Garden City New York to parents James P. Donohue Sr. and Eleanor Donohue. He attended primary and high school in Garden City and then went on to Tufts University where he received a degree in Economics. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity where he developed lifelong friendships.

James worked as a software engineer for IBM and MIT and eventually opened a successful recruiting firm for tech executives.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Elias Donohue. He is survived by his son, James Patrick Donohue, daughter in law, Martha Grover, grandchildren Patrick, Grace, and Caroline, sister Kathy Sweet, brother in law David Sweet, nephew Jonathon Sweet, niece Megan Burke and long-time partner Johnna White.

Jim enjoyed entertaining and held a party on the date of the Boston Marathon for many years. Rather than a funeral service, Jim's Last Marathon Party will be held at his home in Salem, MA at a time to be announced in the future.

Memorial donations can be made to any local food bank or shelter.
