James Garrett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
On the morning of July 13, 2025, James Garrett of Mobile, age 65, took his last breath and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his father Rev. Robert Paul Garrett; son David James Garrett; and grandson David James Garrett Jr. To know James was to love him. First and foremost, he was a devout Christian, a powerful warrior in the faith just as his father was before him, whose passion and driving force in life was fighting to see lost souls saved so that all would share in the inheritance of eternal life with him. With an abundance of patience and wisdom, and as kind as he was humble, James didn't know a stranger and would go out of his way to help and give to anyone who asked, even when he didn't have anything. His deep love for his family was second only to his love for the Lord. When he wasn't counselling men on finding their calling in life or tinkering on something in his shop or around the house, being the jack-of-all-trades that he was, you would find this life-long Alabama native, the "armchair quarterback" extraordinaire, cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide.

The legacy this incredible man leaves behind is one of honor, humility, integrity, strength, service and sacrifice. A man among men, James will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but the pain is eased knowing he is right where his heart always longed to be, in the arms of his Heavenly Father. James is survived by his wife Jennifer Garrett of Mobile, AL; daughters Victoria and Lacy Garrett of Mobile, AL; son Marcell Garrett of Mobile, AL; grandson Chase Garrett of Houston, TX; brothers Paul Garrett of Amarillo, TX, and Dwayne Garrett (Kaye) of Huntsville, AL; sister Yvonne Chiarelli (Lou) of Greensboro, GA; and mother Sara Garrett of Owens Crossroads, AL; and a whole host of other family members and friends who he loved very much. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

"Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." Exodus 14:13 KJV.
