James Gibson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2025.
James LeRoy Gibson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Canton, Georgia, surrounded by his loved ones on September 23, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born on September 15, 1943, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Eugene Carl and Ruth Boyd Gibson.

A man of steadfast loyalty and tireless dedication, LeRoy shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Hazel Regina Swims Gibson. When they first fell in love, LeRoy was 16 and Hazel was 15. Their union on December 21, 1963, was marked by deep love, unwavering devotion, and a partnership that stood as an example to all who knew them. Hazel was LeRoy's one and only true love.

Together, they raised three sons, who remained the pride and joy of his life.

LeRoy proudly served six years in the United States Marine Corps, where he cultivated the discipline, strength, and resilience that guided him throughout his life. After his time in the military, he built a successful career as the owner of Gibson Pipeline Construction, where he was respected for his hard work.

Above all, LeRoy treasured his role as "Pop" to his six grandsons: Parker Thomas, Taylor Britton, Henry Waring, William Andrew, Benjamin Wright, and John Andrew. He delighted in their accomplishments, encouraged their dreams, and filled their lives with stories, life lessons, laughter, and unconditional love.

LeRoy will be remembered for his deep loyalty, strong dedication, and the quiet strength with which he lived each day. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on through the family he loved and the legacy he leaves behind.

In addition to his precious Hazel, LeRoy is survived by his sons, Adam Dayton, Jason Swims (Katie), and James Britton (Melanie).

LeRoy is also survived by his sisters, Carlene Pace and Martha Truskolaski, his sister-in-law, Kane Swims Katz, and his brothers-in-law, Steve Swims and Hal Swims (Lisa), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Lewis Eugene Gibson, and his sister Patricia Gibson.

The family will hold a private family service to honor LeRoy's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in LeRoy's honor.

Dearest Leroy, it's difficult to imagine our world without LEROY!!
I've known you since you met Hazel at church. The three of us would sit together on the same pew. We would always be there for many years. You were always there for us in so many loving ways, creating memories that will never be forgotten. After a full life, you became too ill to recover. As much as we will miss you, you deserve your peace. I will always love you. Sue
