James Greene Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father James "Jim" Greene. Jim passed away on Monday, March 10th at the age of 69 surrounded by his family. He was a native and resident of Whitehall. Jim was a proud founder of R & J Carpet Connection, a local flooring business.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jim's love and unwavering dedication to his family was the cornerstone of his life. An athlete himself, he was highly regarded for his coaching and mentoring to others. He had a passion for sports and thoroughly enjoyed watching and supporting his sons' athletic careers.

Jim was an avid golfer, always cherishing time spent on a golf course. He loved the warm weather and spent much of his free time with his family in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Denise (Anthony), his sons James (Alyssa), Jason (Niki), and Matthew (Cara), and adored grandchildren, Savannah, Kenzie, Ryan, Declan, Keira, Taylor, Cash, and Brynn. He also leaves behind his sister Beverly Kotsch. Jim was predeceased by his parents James (Lucille) Greene and Evelyn (John) Schwartz and his sister Debra Frisch.

His departure leaves an unfillable void in the lives of his family, friends and community. He had a profound effect on many people, young and old, through his coaching, his business, and his genuine, authentic personality. He was always sporting his infectious smile. Those that were lucky to know him find comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. David L. James on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10:30 am in Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church 3024 South Ruch Street Whitehall, PA 18052. BOTH visitations with his family will be in the Church --Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:15 am.

Due to the observance of Lent, flowers are not permitted in Church. A Scholarship Fund has been established in Jim's name. Please make checks payable to Denise Greene and mail them to 444 Pershing Blvd. Whitehall, PA 18052-6411.

Denise, Jimmy, Jayson, and Matt I am heartbroken to learn of Jim's passing. All of you, and Jim, are in my thoughts and prayers.
He was a tireless worker. I remember many many times back in the 80's when we had a settlement deadline and Jim worked late into the evening to finish and allow us stay on schedule. And I remember evening work calls to Jim at your house and hearing from Denise that he wasn't home from a job yet. (Denise you were amazingly polite!) Later in the evening Jim always returned the call.
Over the years, R and J installed carpet in all of the 600 plus homes we built. I never had one contract with Jim. It never crossed my mind because he was a stand up guy, a man of his word. Jim was a blessing to me as I know he was to so many and especially your family.
Keeping you in prayer, Jack Calahan

Denise, Jay and the entire Greene Family - I am deeply sorry and was heartbroken to learn of Jim's passing. I regard your family as "The First Family" of UMBC Athletics/Basketball. You took us into your hearts and (literally) your home. Always looked forward to the yearly bus trips from Whitehall to Catonsville, where the No. 2 replica jerseys would be out in force. Wonderful, wonderful days. May Jim's memory be a blessing to all of you! - Steve Levy

Denise, Jimmy, Jason, Matt,

I am so sorry for the passing of Jimmy. I cherish all the times we spent growing up through our younger years at family picnics at Uncle Jim and Aunt Evelyn's home, picnics at Neff's swimming pool with the entire family. During our High school years and beyond playing competitive softball tournaments around the area and beyond. Jimmy was like a brother to me that I never had. It feels just like yesterday I was on the phone talking with him. Jimmy was such a great person in so many ways.
Rest in peace Jimmy
We will cross paths again

I am so sorry Aunt Denise and the Greene family. Uncle Jim was an incredibly special man who I loved very much and often thought of him as a second dad. I am devastated by his passing and will cherish the memories that I have growing up with him. Rest in peace Uncle Jim.

I met Mr. Green a few years ago when I was looking for a locally owned flooring company. I have been doing business with him and his sons ever since. Every time I was in the store with him, we always had a good laugh. You can tell a lot about a man by his children. I can say that his sons are a pleasure to deal with and are polite gentlemen. We will keep the family in our prayers. We are truly sorry for their loss. Rick (and Terri Zongora)

I just know without reading, all the comments will reflect how we have all had the "Greene experience". The passion and dedication Jim showed in coaching our sons is irreplaceable... the kindness and generosity he gave without hesitation... but for me it was such a treat to see the love you shared between you. Never ever did I hear either of you say a negative word toward anyone ....your commitment and respect toward each other was so evident. I will always treasure the memories my family was lucky enough to experience with you both when traveling to watch Jason and then Matt and Tyler play basketball. I have no doubt you and your lovely family will feel the love returned to you all now ten fold as you navigate these coming weeks. I will truly miss the big smile and hug I received from Jim. A genuine gentleman at heart. His legacy will now live on through all those beautiful grandchildren for sure. Sending many many hugs dear Denise and family xxxx

My deepest condolences to the Greene family. There is no doubt Jim was extraordinary. He had a gift of presence not found in many people. When you saw Jim, you felt better because of the person he was - friendly, a warm smile, and a genuine down to earth person full of compassion. Jim influenced so many kids as a coach that truly is priceless. He was great and will be missed. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy Denise & family. Even though we lost touch while raising our children, I still have the fondest memories of you & Jim. You both made Egypt Slow Pitch Softball games & tournaments so much fun. I followed your boy´s careers through WSD & beyond. I can only imagine all the lives Jimmy touched through sports & professional career. He made the world a happier place with his smile & laughs.

If we are lucky, we get to know maybe a dozen people outside of our immediate families in our entire lifetime that are somehow special. The people that always lift you up, that make your day a bit brighter every single time you see them. For Barb and I, Jim was one of those special people. And while he always downplayed it, he also happened to be one of the best athletes I ever had the privilege to see up close and personal. Our prayers go out to you Denise and your family , but please take comfort in knowing how many peoples lives Jim made a little bit better. He will be missed, but Jim will never be forgotten.
