James HANSON Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 4, 2017.
HANSON, James Joseph
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Hanson at the age of 76. Jim left us in the early morning hours of Friday, January 27, 2017 after being admitted to hospital shortly before Christmas. He leaves Susan, his loving wife of 28 years, and furry companion Emma. Jim was born in 1940 in Toronto to Dorothy Irene Stamper and was one of six children. Jim was predeceased by his mother; his father Joseph; brother and best friend Doug Hanson (Joann); sister Dianne Vowels (Paul); father-in-law Peter Tureski; and sister-in-law Dianna. He is survived by his sister Mary Barrett (Lonsell); brother Don Stamper (Mel Ruddies); sister- in-law Joann Hanson; mother-in-law Helen Tureski; brother-in-law Peter Tureski; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jim started his vocation in the printing business as a young apprentice in Toronto. His career in Edmonton moved through many roles from pressman to Sales Manager. While visiting the Vancouver plant in 1987, he met Susan, and they were married in 1988 and started their new life together by moving to Vancouver. Jim spent 21 successful and rewarding years at Ronald's Printing with his last role being the Vice President and General Manager of the Vancouver plant. Jim and Susan took great pride in the gardens at their home and enjoyed the many trips they took to Maui, which they both loved. An avid skier in his early life, Jim took to using walking poles in later years to help guide his daily walks around the neighbourhood. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Watson and all the staff of the Cardiac Surgery ICU at St. Paul's Hospital for the outstanding care and support given to Jim. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11 at the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond. In lieu of flowers a donation in Jim's memory to St Paul's Hospital Foundation would be most appreciated.

I still miss Jim and always will. We were very close when we were kids just three years apart. The past is gone but the memories still live in my heart.

I remember Uncle Jim in my younger days growing up. What a fun loving man reminded me of Uncle Doug his brother. Didn't get to see you much in my adult life as you moved to Vancouver and didn't come back to Toronto too many times for visits. I will always remember you and you will be fondly missed. My brother Jim will always be a reminder of you the mention of his name "Jim" named after you R.I.P.
Love you Linda and family. xo

In loving memory of Uncle Jim, a man I will remember as out-going, principled and driven to succeed. He always seemed to grab on to life and live it to its fullest. I can picture him with my dad, looking so much alike, laughing and having a great time, and now the Hanson boys are back together. RIP, we'll miss you. Love, Denise
