James Hart, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2024.
James E. Hart, Jr., of Mattapoisett, MA, formerly of Lexington, MA, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 7, 1934 in Somerville, MA, Jim was the cherished son of James E. Hart, Sr. and Ferne Hart (Wakeman).

Jim was a devoted husband to Myra Hart (LaMontagne), with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by his three children and their spouses: Kathleen and Daniel Verret, Jim and Kerry Hart, Jennifer Hart and Scott Thompson. He was a loving grandfather to Tristan, Hayes, Toby, Spencer, and Lilly. Jim also leaves behind his brother Eugene (predeceased by Marilyn), Joseph and Patricia Hart, and his sister-in-law Mary Hart (predeceased by Richard Hart) and his sister-in-law, Claire LaMontage. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he cherished.

After proudly serving in the US Army in Germany, Jim embarked on a successful career path. He worked for Capezio Shoes, excelled in credit card sales, and later ventured into the high-tech industry.

Jim's passion for history and community service led him to become an active member of the Lexington Minuteman Company for 50 years, where he served as Captain and held other leadership roles. He and Myra cultivated many lifelong friendships during this time.

In retirement, Jim found joy in bird watching, gardening, and the tranquility of the beach. He and Myra relocated to Mattapoisett, MA, where they enjoyed clamming and hosting gatherings for family and friends. Jim's welcoming nature ensured that their home was always filled with laughter and warmth. There was always extra food and an available seat at the dinner table just in case someone stopped by.

Jim Hart will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and his commitment to serving others. His legacy of love, kindness, and community involvement will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Catholic mass will take place on April 27, 2024 11:00 am at St. Brigid's church in Lexington, MA 02421. The church is located at 1981 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA. A celebration of life will immediately follow the service. A private graveside burial will take place in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southcoast Health VNA who provided loving end of life care for Jim through their hospice program.

Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time. May he rest in peace, reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him.

When I think of Jim it is has big smile and jolly manner. You couldn't help smile with him.
He was such a good friend to Henry and would call on a regular basis to check in.
He and Myra were such a great pair and we missed them when they moved, although Jim would come back for Minute Man activities when he could.
I will always think of him with affection.

Uncle Jim had such a positive, energetic presence and could always be counted on for a laugh. He made the best fudge, and gave quite a dramatic performance in the Revolutionary War reenactments! His joie de vivre will be missed by all.
