James O. Hoffer

James O. Hoffer, 67, of Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at his home.
Born in Harrisburg on February 18, 1941, he was the son of the late William and Ethel Hoch Hoffer. Jim retired as a Security Officer for the Capitol Police of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Jim was a member of the Paxton Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 272, Linglestown; and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Jim was a yard sale junkie who enjoyed collecting coins and fishing. Besides his wife and daughter, what Jim loved most in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon R. Lightner Hoffer whom he married on October 21, 1972; one daughter, Valerie R. Hironimus wife of James L. of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Amber S. Hironimus and Eric J. Hironimus both of Harrisburg; two brothers, William Hoffer husband of Jeanette of Powell, TN, and Charles Hoffer husband of Patricia of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Carroll, and a brother, Samuel "Mike" Hoffer.
Jim will be deeply missed by all his and Sharon's family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Joann C. Maurer, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to the viewing at the funeral home Sunday, September 14, 2008, from 6 to 8 PM and Monday from 10 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, because of Jim's love for his grandchildren, Amber and Eric Hironimus, memorial contributions may be made for their benefit payable to the "James Hoffer Memorial Fund" c/o Fulton Bank, Skyline Drive Office, 7761 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg, PA 17112.

Sharon,

Please know that you and Val have been in our thoughts and prayers ever since we first heard of Jim's recent passing. We are so very sorry for your loss.

We both remember how close you and Jim were and we are praying for your strength and courage for the days ahead, one hour at a time.

When Jim closed his eyes here, he opened them in heaven. Sharon, please take comfort in knowing that this sad parting is only temporary, that you and Jim will one day be walking those streets of gold together - forever.

Uncle Jim,

I will never forget your smile and the love that you and aunt sharon had for each other. There was never a time that i didnt come over to the house and leave hungry...lol. That was one of the big things i remember about you! I remember you coming down to the house and taking me for rides on the back of your motorcycle when i was just little. I have so many great memories, too many to put on here, all i can say is that even though we know that you can now live a good after life free of that darn machine it still doesnt make it any easier for us here. Dont worry about aunt sharon, we are all here for her and will get her through this. I love you and will miss you always.

Jim was a good friend for many many years. I never was around Jim when I didn't laugh even when he was sick. Him and my Dad were the best of friends and he was always stopped in for coffee or should I say sugar with a little coffee. Jim and Sharon got my wife and I together over 30 years ago and for that we are eternally grateful. Sharon our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Dad,
I will miss you so very much! Even though I know that you are no longer suffering and you can do anything you want now without struggling, it doesn't make losing you any easier.
I will miss your smile, your stubborness, your telling me that I slammed the refrigerator too hard, or that I have too much perfume on. :) :) I will also miss seeing your eyes light up when Amber and Eric walk in the room, but most of all I will miss the fact that no matter what I said or did you always said, "Valerie I love you"!
I know I might not have always said it or showed it, but I loved you soooo much too! And thank you for loving my children so much. They love their Pap-Pap more than words can say.

Dad please don't worry about mom "we" will take care of her. It will be hard for her because she loved you immensly, but she has so many who care and love her. She will never be alone! :)

I will miss you! Please watch over us all, I know you will........

Have fun in Heaven!!!!!

Love you Always,
Your daughter Val
