James Hollar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2025.
James Hollar, age 56, passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness, strength, and unwavering kindness. Known to all as someone who carried others' burdens as if they were his own, James had a heart that saw people - especially the underdog - and made them feel truly seen.

James adored his wife, Carole Hollar, with a love that was steady, and unshakable. Together they built a life full of laughter, warmth, and unconditional support. He was the beloved son of Larry and Penny Hollar and the brother of Bradley Hollar who he loved and missed dearly. He was a proud and loving father to Madison (Cody) Fast, Grace Hollar, and Cameron (Stephanie) Baker, and a devoted grandfather to Owen, Brooks, and Hazel Baker - each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. He deeply loved his nieces Samantha (Nick) DePalma and Sydney (Chad) Vonderembse. His family was his everything, and his face lit up at the mere mention of their names.

A native of Elida, James made his mark early as a basketball star whose talent was matched only by his humility. He often shared stories from his days on the court - not to boast, but to relive cherished memories with the lifelong friends who stood by him through thick and thin.

James found peace and joy on the golf course, especially during rounds shared with his step-son, Cameron. Whether they were playing a competitive match or just laughing through a tough hole, those moments on the green were among his most treasured. It was never just about the game (well sometimes) - it was about the bond, the memories, and the time spent together. When he wasn't golfing he was supporting Madison and Grace in any way possible with daily good morning texts and regular visits to Cincinnati.

No matter what life threw his way, James met every challenge with quiet courage and grace. He never let hardship change the goodness at his core. His presence had a way of making others feel safe, understood, and cared for. To know James was to be impacted by him.

The world feels dimmer without his light, but those who knew him will carry his spirit forward - in small acts of kindness, in cheering for the underdog, and in loving others with a full and generous heart. He was truly one of a kind, and he will be missed more than words can say. He leaves behind so many loved ones including his cherished A&W family.

A celebration of life will be held to honor the legacy of James Hollar this Saturday, April 19th at the Journey Building at Lima Community Church (2945 N Cole St Lima Ohio) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something kind for someone who needs it - just as James would have.
