James Hyser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 24, 2014.
Hyser, James William, 71, of Midlothian, beloved husband of Mary-Ruth, his wife of 45 years, died on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Born June 28, 1942, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to the late James O. and Seyvilla (Brennan) Hyser, "Jimmy" lived in Midlothian for the past 25 years. In 2001, Jim retired from a Regional Sales Manager position with Aladdin Synergetics, Inc. He served as the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. Edward's Council # 6546, as the Faithful Purser of the Msgr. McMahon Assembly #2205, and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. Besides his loving and loyal wife, he is survived by his daughter Heather McCarthy and husband David of Glastonbury, CT, and daughter Hilary Hyser and husband Anthony Latham of Ewing, NJ. Jim's twin 14 year old grandsons, Corey and Devin McCarthy of Glastonbury, CT, will always hold Papa close to their hearts and remember the special Christmas traditions of decorating cookies and brunch at the Jefferson, along with their birthday traditions of apple fritters at the orchard and Shady Glen pumpkin sundaes in CT. Jim is survived by brothers Frederick and wife Trixie Hyser of Westerville, OH and Howard and wife Diane Hyser of Stoney Creek, North Carolina, and by sisters-in-law Suzanne (Giroux) and husband Conway Gregory of Denton, MD, Carolyn Giroux of St. Albans, VT, and Jennifer (Giroux) and husband Gary Laidman of Alden, NY. He is also survived by father-in-law Lionel P. Giroux of St. Albans, VT. Jim was very fond of all his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He leaves behind a legion of friends with whom he shared strong bonds of love and support as they shared their life journey. His cat, Natasha, will miss her buddy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 on Friday, February 28, at St. Edward, 2700 Dolfield Drive, North Chesterfield, VA, with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to the St. Edward Food Pantry or the Richmond Animal League at 11401 International Drive, Richmond, VA 23236. We will miss Jim, but love never fades – its brightness grows and grows – its warmth ever present.

Jim gave me two of the most precious gifts any man could give another; the voice of reason & perspective and his daughters hand in marriage. Our long talks during a troubled time in my life as well as welcoming me into his family helped shape where I am at today. For that I am grateful.

Time, life's most underappreciated but valuable commodity. You always feel like you have plenty of it to do the things you want to do until it's gone. I did not take the time to thank Jim for those gifts. For that I'm sorry.

Many believe you will be reunited with lost love ones when you leave this world. It may give you a second chance to convey your feelings. Remembering my Mom, Dad, Charlie and now Jim, for a mulligan I am hopeful.

With My Deepest Sympathy to the Entire Hyser Family,

Dear Mary-Ruth and family,

I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Jim at Aladdin for many years. We traveled nationally together to a variety of events and facilities. His knowledge, experience and energy always made a difference. I enjoyed his humor throughout the work day and he continued to share stories well into his retirement with me. Jim lived life to its fullest each and every day, and I hope you know how much he meant to all of us. May god bless you and your family during this difficult time.

May God bless you and your family in this time of loss.
Jim will always hold a dear place in my memory. Thank you Jim for sharing kindness, love, and understanding - and helping me to see the blessings in my life, at a time when I couldn't. You were truly the hands and feet of God for me when I needed it most, and pointed me in a better direction.

To my Daddy and my Best Friend,
Thank you for being the best father that a daughter could ever ask for. Thank you for always listening and offering a comforting hug of support. I owe each and every life success and achievement to you. You taught me the value of hard-work and taught me that to receive something of value from the world, you had to give the world something of equal or greater value.
My life will never be the same. And I will forever miss you.
Love Always,
Hilary

Please accept my deepest sympathy and heartfelt pain with Jim's passing so suddenly and expectantly. Family was always Jimmy's number one priority; he always talked about family a whole lot more than he did all the physical pains he bore especially in his later lifetime. I will always admire the way he bore the crosses he personally had to bear. Jim and I had a whole lot in common and were blessed in many similar ways which was the root strength of our relationship. He is missed but will never be forgotten.
