James Jarrard Obituary

James Ellsworth "Jim" Jarrard, Jr., age 94, of St. Augustine, passed away on Oct. 10, 2016, at Flagler Hospital. Jim was born and grew up in Berwick, Pennsylvania. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He met and later married Betty Bush in Berwick and began raising his family in Berwick. Jim worked for the Wise Potato Chip Company for 40 years. In 1964, he was transferred to St. Augustine with the company and worked as a supervisor until his retirement in 1987. In his retirement, Jim worked as a jury bailiff at the St. Johns County Courthouse. He was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a very active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Bush Jarrard; sons Jon and William; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia. He is survived by daughters Joyce Conser, and Betsy Walton and her husband Dane, all of St Augustine; sons Robert Jarrard and his wife Audrey of St. Augustine, and James E. Jarrard III of Jacksonville; a sister, Marcyl Laubach of Berwick; five grandchildren, Ben Jarrard (Debbie), John Jarrard (Cody), Carrie Dean (Sam), Carter Conser (Meridith) and J.A. Jarrard (Renee); and great-grandchildren Brandon, Jeremy, Andrew, Caleb, Riley, Katelyn, Conner, Brennan and one precious baby on the way. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carolyn Williamson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the Children's Ministry at Grace United Methodist Church, 8 Carrera St., St. Augustine, FL 32084, or to Habitat for Humanity St. Johns County, 7 Hopkins St., St Augustine, FL 32084.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
