JAMES MYRON FRY

January 18, 1941 - September 19, 2024

James Myron Fry "Jim", was born January 18, 1941, the son of Hilda (Malvitz) and Myron Fry. Jim grew up in Inkster, Michigan, completed his undergraduate degree in Math and Science from the University of Detroit in 1964 and moved to the Washington, D.C. area, working 32 years for the Federal Government. He obtained a Master's degree in Photogrammetry from the University of Illinois in 1969. Jim retired in 1996 and worked an additional 12 years at Earth Satellite Corporation/MDA in Maryland.

He is survived by his wife Graciela (Longoria) of San Antonio, Texas, his daughter Laura (Fry) Rossman and her husband Bob of South Riding, Virginia, his wife's daughters Sandra (Lutkenhouse) Latta and her husband Neal of Fairfax Station, Virgina, and Patricia (Lutkenhouse) Talbert of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Charlotte and Florence; his son's former wife Michelle Gates; and ten grandchildren: Annie, Matthew, and Sarah Rossman; Emily, Jake, and Parker Latta; Veronica and Lucas Talbert; Zak and Nick Fry. Jim is preceded in death by his sister Phyllis (Fry), and his first wife Mary (Conley) and their two sons Steven and Christopher.

Jim lived each moment to the fullest with love, laughter and family. He was married to Graciela for over 41 years and the two were inseparable. He found joy in nature and was an award winning photographer known for his black and white images. Everyone who knew Jim knew he was never seen without a camera in hand, capturing so many special moments on film.

One of Jim's greatest joys were he and Graciela's yearly trips to Cancun, where they explored Mexico together and made lifelong memories with family and friends. Jim was an incredible handyman, cook, gardener, and teacher-always taking the time to teach his grandchildren about everything they wanted to know, from photography to computers to magic tricks.

Jim was passionate, generous, and energetic-always the life of the party, with his silly antics and a witty sense of humor. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and bonus father, brother, and adoring grandparent. His warm smile and twinkle in his eye will be truly missed.

Jim's funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's of Sorrows Catholic Church (Historic Church) located at 5612 Ox Rd, Fairfax Station, VA. 22039.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
