James (Jim) Hudson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2025.
Muncie - James (Jim) Hudson, Muncie, passed away at home on July 16th, 2025. Jim was born on October 19th, 1949 to James Austin (Dick) Hudson and Ova June (Stanley) Hudson of Cowan, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet Deady, brother-in-law Bob Deady, and nephew Wes Deady. He leaves behind a daughter, Holly Hudson (Heather Pier) of Yorktown, grandson Joey Pier (Daisy) of Anderson, a brother from another, Dannie Campbell of Muncie, dear friend Stefanie Greenlee (Jesse) of Waynetown, along with a host of family, and friends who loved him dearly.

Some of Jim's fondest memories and stories revolved around playing baseball as a youth and into high school. Rumor has it that he could hurl a ball with such precision, purpose, and speed, that oftentimes whomever was in the batter's box might be wondering what just happened as the ball flew past and was called a strike. (Rumor also has it that if the umpire "got it wrong", his father was quick to point out the error to the umpire...which one might infer did not work in Jim's favor!) Jim also loved fast Chevy cars, haggling over prices, and could likely account for where he spent the first dollar he ever earned.

Of greatest importance, Jim was a fierce patriot who loved his country. He proudly served his country in the United States Army (artillery) during the Vietnam War from 1969-1970. He received an honorable hardship discharge in 1970 when his father passed.

Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 19, Amvets, and VFW. One would be hard pressed to run into him and not see something patriotic in nature - be it a hat, shirt, or even license plate on his car, not a soul doubted Jim's adoration and genuine love of the red, white, and blue.

As a member of the Cowan Christian Church, Jim found peace in attending services on Sunday. He also enjoyed attending American Legion baseball games, drag racing, and horse racing.

Jim worked at Ball State University in dining services, retiring in 2011. Jim also spent many years working for Miller Seed/Farms, and it was there where he and Perry Miller forged a really treasured bond. Given the early departure of his father, Perry was a driving force in Jim's life. Early years with Perry were spent working in the fields and around the farm, whereas later the duo made a mountain of furniture, puzzles, and games, dispersing them to the masses.

Services will be July 31st at Parson Mortuary, 801 W Adams St., Muncie, IN., from 12:00-2:00 with graveside services to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a Veteran's organization of your choosing. Rest easy, Pops.
