James "Jim" Snediker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 16, 2024.
James Michael "Jim" Snediker died in his home on December 8, 2024, on Hilton Head Island, SC. He was 83.

Jim was born on October 24, 1941, in Celina, OH, to John and Helen Snediker and grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and Stow, OH. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University (then Case Tech) with bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering. He then moved to Pittsburgh, PA to take a job with IBM, where he met his wife Judy, whom he married in 1969.

He worked as a software developer for various companies for around 40 years before he and Judy retired to the Hilton Head/Bluffton area.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at Deer Valley YMCA Camp, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and the Hilton Head Computer Club, learning new things, and seeing live music.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Diane and Kathy, and his son-in-law, Chris White. He is preceded in death by his wife Judy and sister Karen.

A memorial will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry (https://www.lowcountryhabitat.org/). Islandfuneralhome.com

I met Jim when starting my carrier at Melon Bank in Pittsburgh in 1974. We had a common bond of both being members of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the local Alumni Association. We kept in touch after he left Mellon and his retirement to SC. In the 2000´s I got him interested in the NHRA Drags. We would meet up in Bristol, TN for the Father´s Day weekend. One time my sister was the "third" and another time her adult son and a few time my Son. Three people drinking beer, ignoring any diet, breathing nitro (I do miss that) and wearing ear muffs to somewhat protect our ears.

I believe it was when Jim was thinking about buying his corvette that I talked him into going to the Detroit International Auto Show. I had driven there from Pittsburgh multiple years and showed off Detroit and the Show to various people. The deal was that Jim flew from Savannah and I picked him up at the Detroit Airport. We enjoyed the Show and Detroit and I deposited him back at the airport.

My last thought is that Jim and Judy attended our son´s wedding in Augusta, GA. It meant a lot to me since many of the northern relatives did not attend. Kind of evened the bride/groom sides in the church.

Rest in Peace Brother

I had the privilege of working with Jim at the Hilton Head Island Computer Club. He was our Membership Director and a fantastic Volunteer and Presenter. He is missed.

Jim was always kind and patient and a wonderful person.
