James Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2024.
James R. Johnson, known affectionately as Jim, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away suddenly on July 26, 2024, at the age of 62 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Born on Thanksgiving Day November 23, 1961, in Lakewood, Ohio, Jim raised his children in Medina County, Ohio before moving to Lorain County several years ago.

In his early years Jim was a skilled artist. He enjoyed taking his children on camping trips & teaching them about nature and how to fish. He instilled a love of thrill rides & roller coasters in his children and was proud to see that love passed on to his grandchildren. He was also an avid golfer, teaching both of his sons the love and techniques of the game.

Jim had an endless thirst for knowledge of history, science, geography and the many wonders of our world and was enthusiastic about sharing it with others.

Jim dedicated over 30 years of his life to All Construction Services in Brunswick, OH, where he was highly respected in his role as a warehouse supervisor. His colleagues revered him not just for his hard work but also for his quick wit and great sense of humor, which made the daily grind much more enjoyable for everyone around him.

Outside of work, Jim had a profound love for the outdoors and a passion for riding his Harley with his dog, Oscar, and left this world doing what he loved. He enjoyed attending rock concerts and classic car shows, which spoke to his vibrant and spirited nature. He was also a big fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians & Ohio State Buckeyes. Additionally, Jim was an enthusiastic cook who loved experimenting with new recipes, a hobby that brought joy to many gatherings.

Jim's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his fiancé Bonnie Kelly; his children, Jason Johnson and his wife Laura of West Henrietta, NY, Jamie Moore and her husband Chad of Burbank, OH, Jared Johnson and his wife Chelsea of Columbia Station, OH and stepdaughter Bobbie Shipman of Elyria, OH. He also leaves behind his sister, Holly Banks and her husband Eldin of Naples, FL, and his brother, Dave Johnson of Parma, OH & his dog Oscar. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several nieces & nephews, who will miss his presence deeply.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie and Jeanette Johnson (nee Hammett). His life was a testament to the joy and love he shared with those around him.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on August 31, 2024 from 1-4 pm at Ledge Lake, 1151 Ledge Rd, Hinckley OH. This gathering will honor his memory and the indelible mark he left on the lives of those he touched. Jim's laughter and love for life will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Look Twice, Save A Life...In Jim's honor, the family is asking everyone to slow down, be aware of your surroundings and be present in the moment. Please remember this phrase and advocate for the safety of all motorcyclists.

I worked with Jim at All Construction Services. I really enjoyed working with him. He was very kind and funny. I remember him telling me about decorating his huge pine tree in his yard for Christmas. It was really big and he had to buy huge ornaments to decorate it. I thought it was the coolest idea. My condolences to his family and friends. He was a wonderful man.
