James "Keith" Freeman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2024.
Keith, born James Keith Freeman in Valdosta, Georgia, went home to be with his Savior on February 12, 2024 at the age of 73.

Keith grew up on the south side of Midland, Texas where people didn't lock their doors and kids played safely in the streets outside until dark. He graduated from Midland High School where he loved and excelled at baseball. He completed his education with a degree in electrical engineering at Texas Tech where he spent much of his spare time in the surrounding farms hunting pheasant yet still managed membership in Tau Beta Pi honor society.

Keith joined the US Navy and was an officer aboard the nuclear ballistic missile submarine USS Woodrow Wilson, serving his country with honor and dedication from 1972-77. His military associations were an integral part of his life, and he brought the skills and discipline he acquired during his

service to his civilian career in the natural gas industry where he was well-known and respected for his integrity, fairness, ability to resolve differences, and excellent negotiation skills.

Outside of his professional life, Keith had a passion for fishing and hunting. He hunted birds and deer with his father, brother, son, and an entourage of hunting dogs. All of his stories brought laughter and delight in their telling. Later in life, he spent many days in Rockport fishing and befriending the local birds. Keith was an eternally optimistic fisherman, confident that the next cast would land a keeper. His hobbies not only allowed him to connect with God and His creation, but also with his loved ones; he eagerly included family and friends in his excursions, he freely shared the fish that he cooked, and he was always more excited when others caught fish than when he caught them himself. Keith is now home with his Lord and Savior, the best fishing guide of all time.

Keith's faith in the Lord anchored him through life, whether it was seeking His will about whether or not to move his family across the country or his last days that he patiently submitted to the pain and loss of ability without complaint or questioning, knowing how to fully surrender because the promises of God for those who believe are "Yes & Amen", including that place of eternal rest that He prepares for His children, where Keith now resides.

Keith was a devoted husband to his wife, Sharon "Quita" Freeman, and is survived by her, their two children and spouses, and four grandchildren: Aimee, Darren, Avery & Wilson Barlow, Ira, Sallee, Bede & Zollie Freeman.

Please join us in celebrating Keith's life and his "Going Home": Friday, February 23, 2024 at 1pm at Congregation Beth Messiah 9001 W Airport Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77071.
