KING James Centre "Jim" Jr., M.D. of Lexington, Kentucky died March 26, 2018 at home after a long illness surrounded by his family. He was born on November 16, 1935, the only child of James Centre King Sr. and Kathryn Stanley King of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Jim was educated in the public schools of Hopkinsville, KY, graduating from Hopkinsville High in 1953 and attended Western Kentucky University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957. He received his MD degree in 1961 from Vanderbilt University and completed a Rotating Internship in 1962 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Shortly after he was drafted into the United States Air Force as a General Medical Officer and then as a Flight Surgeon with the rank of Captain. Following his separation from the Air Force, Jim completed a Pediatric Residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and practiced in Clarksville, Tennessee. He completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency, becoming the first diagnostic Resident at the University of Kentucky in 1970 and a Neuroradiology Fellowship in 1971 at the same institution. Jim was a Diplomat, American Board of Pediatrics, Diplomat, Board of Radiology, Fellow, American College of Radiology. He was a member of the American Roentgen Ray Society and American Society of Neuroradiology. He was a member of the Civil War Round Table and had a great love for history. He was a Charter member and Founding Fellow of the Lancaster-Puckett Society at Western Kentucky University which he started in his living room with longtime friend John A. Logan, MD. He was an avid white water rafter, excellent tennis player and photographer. His family will enjoy many of his photographs for years to come. Jim was a fan of bow ties and insisted on tying his own. He enjoyed his Bassets and Jack Russell Terriers who predeceased him in death. Jim was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church and a member for 49 years attending the Forum Church School Class and the Wednesday night Pastor's Bible Study. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Louise Farmer King, four children, eight grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ouida Tisdall. Children: James Centre King III, MD (Melissa Langley, MD), Elisabeth Anne King Nichols (Mark Edward Nichols), Stacy Lynn King Manis and Gretchen Lea King. Grandchildren: James Centre King IV, Melissa Langley King, John Campbell Nichols (Rachel), James Burton Nichols, Isaac Gray Manis IV, Isabella Gray Manis, Madelyn Grace Manis and Dakota Scott Sherrow. The Family wishes to express their appreciation to Jim's Caregivers for their excellent care: Carmelia Franklin, Audrey Rodriguez, Ruby Walker and Tina Young. Visitation will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 9:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church Chapel with funeral services following at 10:00 A.M. in the Sanctuary. Private burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
