James Large Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2025.
James Carl Large, 67, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Denver, Colorado, to Richard and Charlotte (Holl) Large.

Jim spent his childhood in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he attended the Lincoln Public Schools and graduated from Southeast High School. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Industrial Education. He worked in the Lincoln and Omaha areas in manufacturing until he moved to Webster City, Iowa to begin his 35-year career with Frigidaire/Electrolux.

It was there he met and married the love of his life, Frannie Hemingway. His career later led the couple to Hendersonville, Tennessee, and ultimately to Cornelius, North Carolina, where he retired. Wherever he worked or lived, Jim was always proud to cheer on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a member of the Southenders Lake Norman and The Beer Club Cornelius.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Frannie Hemingway-Large; their beloved daughters, Carolyn Large and Natalia Hemingway (Bob Navarro, and granddaughters, Vivian and Olivia Navarro). He is also survived by his mother, Charlotte (Holl) Large; his brothers, Jon Large and Michael Large (Bernadette Leahy); his sister, Jan Mckeown (Mitch); as well as Jim's nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Large.

Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who found his great joy in the company of his family. His gentle humor, steady guidance, and generous spirit will be remembered always. Jim was very fond of his many cousins in Western Nebraska where he spent many holidays and summers in his youth.

A celebration of life will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska, with details to be announced at a later date.

The family invites friends and loved ones to share memories of Jim and celebrate the life of a man whose legacy of love will live on in the hearts of many.
