James P. Lazarus
1919 - 2002

SPRINGFIELD - James P. Lazarus, 83, of 100 Rochelle St., died Monday at home. Born in Jamaica, British West Indies, he was a 39 year Springfield resident previously living in Boston and California. James was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Salerno Bay in the South Pacific and later aboard the U.S.S. Shenandoah in the North Atlantic. In 1951 he became a Certified Watchmaker and in 1954 a Certified Master Watchmaker, and was employed by Savitt Jewelers of Hartford, CT for 21 years. He was also a member of the Horological Institute of Washington, D.C. He leaves his wife, Georgianna (Nunnally) Lazarus; five sons, James Lazarus of Manitowoc, WI, Richard, Philip, Michael and Haleem Lazarus of Springfield, MA; four sisters, Tatty Lazarus of Jamaica, British West Indies, Pearl Gibbs and Daisy Creary, both of Hollywood, FL, and Bernice Crawford of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral service with military honors will be Friday, December 13th at 11 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. There will be no visiting hours. Byron Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Western New England, 50 Maple St., PO Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01104.
