James Edward Lumpkin, 81, of Bryan, peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, September 11, 2022.

James was born in Bryan, Texas to James Calvin Lumpkin and Maggie Kathryn Seale Lumpkin on April 12, 1941. In James' early years he lived in Navasota and attended elementary school there. He later moved to Bryan and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1959. He had fond childhood memories of visits to Franklin and Marque to see family and play with cousins. After graduation he moved to Washington, DC to work for the FBI where he met and married Edna Greenlee and moved back to Bryan to raise his family. He worked for the family business, Monarch Carpets until 1975 then joined the Bryan Police Department, then Brazos County Sheriff's Office and finally Travis County Sheriff's Office where he retired after 30 plus years in law enforcement. In the late sixties Saturday nights were spent racing at Moody Clary Speedway in Navasota living out every boy's childhood dream of being a race car driver. Through the years James enjoyed fishing, road tripping and stopping at many roadside sales along the way collecting many unique items.

James is proceeded in death by both his parents, brother Jerel Seale Lumpkin, first wife Edna Greenlee Lumpkin Guillot, and third wife Susan Lumpkin. Those left to carry on his memory are daughters Sherri Lumpkin Payne (Steve Payne), Terri Lumpkin Boudreaux (Cindy Huhn), grandsons Matthew Payne (Tessa Leger), Shaun Payne and great grandsons Quinn Payne, Oliver Payne and Levi Payne, second wife Holly Provance Lumpkin Doggett, and special friend Barbara St. Pierre.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 27, 2022, 12:00 to 2:00 at Eighteen Eighteen Venue, 1838 Smetana Rd., Bryan, TX 77807. Light lunch items will be served. There will be opportunities to share stories and honor James' life.
