James Machen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
James Robert Machen, age 65, passed away on July 5, 2025. Beloved lifetime partner of Jadi Ryan, devoted brother of Nancy Carter, Jenifer Moeller (Ken) and cherished uncle of Sarah, Jessi, Ben and Ian.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25th from 5-9 PM at one of his favorite golf courses Briardale Greens; 24131 Briardale Ave, Euclid, OH 44123.

Jim lived life on his own terms and packed it with action, laughter, and love. He spent his career as a firefighter with the Maple Heights Fire Department, where he earned the respect of everyone he served alongside. His fellow firefighters knew him as capable, steady under pressure, and always reliable-truly one of the "brothers."

But Jim never let firefighting alone define who he was. He had too many other passions calling his name. Off the clock and out of uniform, he spent his days doing exactly what made him feel alive: hunting, fishing, scuba diving, traveling, and hitting the golf course whenever he could.

Jim wasn't just along for the ride-he was a near expert in everything he took on. He knew the best fishing spots before the sun came up, tracked game with a quiet patience that always paid off, moved underwater like he belonged there, and could read a tricky golf green and line up a putt better than most.

And the best part? He never kept it to himself. If you asked, Jim would share every tip, every hard-earned trick of the trade, and made sure you got the most out of the sport too.

Jim was the guy who always had your back. He was quick to share a story, lend a hand, or crack a joke to lighten the mood. His friendliness and loyalty earned him many friends.

As the only brother in the family, Jim was a steady presence for his two sisters, Nancy and Jeni. He kept an eye out for them, offered help when they needed it, and was always ready with advice-delivered straight, but always with care. He loved them both.

Jim was also the uncle every kid hopes for. To his nieces and nephews, he was the "cool" uncle, the one who showed them how to cast a line, told the best stories, and cheered them on in everything they did. He made each of them feel special.

Yet of all the things Jim loved, nothing meant more than his relationship with his long-time lover, partner, and best friend-Jadi. She was the love of his life, and Jim made sure everyone knew it, including her. Their life together was a true marriage that transcended more traditional unions. Jim didn't need a piece of paper to prove his commitment to Jadi - his actions told all.

She was his rock, his travel buddy, his social spark, his everything, and his constant companion. He was deeply in love with her, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, parties with their countless friends, shared travel adventures, and quiet heartfelt moments.

Jim showed us how to live. He set the standard. His absence leaves a hole impossible to fill, but his spirit stays with all of us on every trail, every fairway, and every calm morning by the water.

Here's to Jim-a man who made the most of every moment. We'll miss you, but we'll carry your memory with us, always.

My message is to Nancy and Jeni; Russ Harris Sr and Sandy Moore(nee Harris) send our sympathies. Jim will always be forever in your memory and hearts. Peace and love.

Jim and I shared many memories from school, teachers never knew if we were twins, related or just happened to have the same last name. We kept them guessing. Had many fun memories going out and hanging in the flats, going on his boat. He gave everyone a heart attack when he stopped over my parents house in the ambulance the day of my wedding just to see me before the service. Miss you cousin, Just heartbroken

In Loving Memory of Jim

It´s with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my dear friend Jim - my hunting buddy, fishing partner, spearfishing companion, and brother in good times and bad. For over 15 years, we shared countless adventures, quiet moments on the water, campfire laughs, cold drinks, and memories that will stay with me forever.

Jim was more than a friend - he was an older brother, family. He lived fully, loved fiercely, and always knew how to make a day brighter, no matter the weather. The world feels quieter without him, but I know he´s out there somewhere, casting a line or stalking a trail with a smile on his face.

Rest easy, Jim. You´ll always be with me.
