James MacLeay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2025.
James (Jim) MacLeay, 91, of Morristown, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 2, 2025, at UT Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and quiet generosity.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen. He is survived by his daughter, Laura (John) Beeler; son, Kevin (Karen) MacLeay; and grandsons, Drew (Rachel Hart) Beeler and Scott (Sarah Keenan) Beeler, each of whom he loved deeply. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Pinney.

He proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. He served in Texas, Korea, Greenland, Washington, Hawaii, Nevada, Montana, North Dakota, Guam, and Georgia. After retiring from the military, he continued his life of service as a teacher in Hamblen County schools.

Jim was a leading member and avid proponent of the powered parachute community. He traveled thousands of miles and contributed hundreds of hours helping everyone who wanted to fly and experience the fun of flying with the birds. He loved flying and wanted others to share his joy.

He was an active member of Community Fellowship in Christ and previously at Panther Springs UMC.

Jim had a zest for life and lived a life of joy. He loved powered parachutes and seafood dinners. Whether lending a hand, offering quiet wisdom, or simply being there when someone needed him, Jim embodied compassion and strength in all he did.

A man of quiet strength and unwavering values, and a generous heart, Jim will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered by family, friends, and all of those whose lives he touched.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Alder Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 7 pm with Rev. Trevor Roberts officiating. Family and friends will meet for an 11 am graveside service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Fellowship in Christ (515 Lakeshore Rd., Talbott, TN 37877).
