James Carlton McCrory

Ventura - James Carlton McCrory (Jim Cory), 81 of Ventura, California passed away peacefully on June 13, 2021. Jim was born on November 27, 1939 in West Mississippi to James and Alice McCrory.

Jim enlisted in the US Navy in 1955 at the age of 15yrs. Jim worked in the car business for 47 years ranging from Northern California to Ventura County and was locally famous for having his own billboard advertising for Tom Coward Ford on Oxnard Blvd, along with a variety of television and radio ads. He was well known for everyone's favorite line "Howdy folks I'm Jim Cory!" Jim also recorded albums with Capitol Records from 1956 on and off until 1964.

Jim was an active member of many clubs and civic organizations: The Lions Club (President, Oxnard Chapter), The Jaycees (President, Oxnard Chapter), Oxnard Ambassadors (Consul General 1970-1991), Ventura County Elks Club (Trustee/Member). He loved serving as MC for many community parades, rodeos, and events. Jim also owned restaurants the Glen Tavern, Camp Scheideck Bar and Grill and was a partner in the Mupu Grill.

Jim had a love for spending time racing his speedboat and skiing, spending time at the lake and river with his family and friends. He enjoyed singing for events and parties and had a special gift for entertaining and always made others feel special. Jim lived every minute of life fully and was loved and respected by so many.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Robert and Albert.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol, daughter Whitney Parker, son-in-law Fess E. Parker, son Jimmy McCrory and daughter-in-law Katherine McCrory, granddaughters Bailey deBruynKops, Kristen Curran and husband David Curran, Kirby deBruynKops and great granddaughter Jane Curran.
