My love for Father McGrath will never diminish. I met him years ago as a Corby Girl. I served him dinner at Corby Hall and my hands would shake as I poured is coffee. He was so kind and gentle and never was sharp with me. I eventually moved to head table and served Father Hesburgh all because Father Jim helped me gain confidence. Father remained close to the Corby girls through his life. He helped us all grow into strong faithful women. Watching him at the end was difficult but we knew he would soon be with the God he so loved. Thank you Father Jim. Your picture is on my refrigerator to this day.

We agree with all of these comments about Fr. McGrath. Such a wonderful man associated with our Sacred Heart of Mary parish. He officiated at our daughter's wedding, and co-officiated at our son's wedding up in Petoskey, MI. He always reminded us that he loved Petoskey and opened his eyes to such beautiful territory where he had never been. Many Christmases we also received a magnet of our family Christmas photo card we had given him. Very thoughtful man! We attended his wake this past Sunday at ND. May he rest in peace with God.

Such a wonderful man who always passed his blessings onto others. Fr. McGrath presided over my wedding and the baptism of my son. You will be forever missed, Fr.

My family had a summer place out at twin lakes on big twin. We always looked forward to Sunday mass. I remember one weekend during a summer, my friends Jennifer McClenahan, Deanna Beneke and I stayed in his guestroom at his apartment in the firehouse on campus at Notre Dame. It has always been and always remain one of my fondest memories. He was a wonderful man and priest. There simply are not enough words to describe how special he was and he will be missed fiercely.

Such a wonderful priest and wonderful with our family at Sacred Heart of Mary! All of our children spent time at ND enjoying the whole campus for many years because of Father McGrath! He enjoyed his many years in Michigan! And we were so lucky to have him at our parish! Am so glad he is at peace with our heavenly Father!!!

Dear Terry I am so sorry for the loss of such a great man as your brother.I remember the first time I poured coffee for him and my hands shook. He was so kind and gentle with me as my hands shook and thus started a life long friendship and mutual respect. His intelligence was astonishing. His Godliness and holiness even more amazing and uplifting. It was a gift from God to know him.I will attend the mass and hope to exchange a hug in his honor. Mary Ann Corby Girl

JJ always made himself available to those students willing to accept his outreach. He always thought of others first and worked tirelessly in his niche as a member of the University's Biology Department. I was fortunate to be among those who received his generous concern and assistance since I first encountered him as my dorm rector in 1969. May he enter into the Lord's eternal rest which he so richly earned.

For many years, Fr. McGrath served as a weekend priest at Sacred Heart in Sister Lakes, MI, where he inspired me to pursue a career in science, as well as, develop my faith and service to our little parish. Both of these purposes have now led me to be a science teacher for catholic schools and combine the love of science and God in one's life. Fr. McGrath also officiated my wedding because I considered him my pastor and influential teacher. May he now find a peaceful rest with Jesus, while still being inspired by wonderful flora.
