James Arthur Morlock

James Arthur Morlock left this world on January 29, 2023, one day after his 89th birthday, succumbing to the effects of Parkinson's Disease.

Jim was born in St. Joseph, MO, to F. Gerald and Rose Morlock, the fifth of six children: William, Robert, Shirley, Mary Ann, James and John Morlock. After graduating from Christian Brothers High School in 1952, he spent the next decade attending the G. M. Institute in Flint, MI, serving his country, and graduating from the University of Michigan. His work took him to Southern California, where he met and married Barbara Nicholas and started his family.

The family moved to Davis, CA in the mid '60s for Jim to run the Hunt Wesson Foods plant, settling into a wonderful community for the children to grow and lifelong friendships to develop and thrive. Even though Jim left Davis in the late '70s to pursue career opportunities in other parts of the country, he reconnected with his golf and poker groups when he returned to the area. It was then, in the late '80s, he met and married Rebecca Barile in Sacramento, CA, and continued his family.

Jim raised his youngest son and retired in Carmichael, CA, while he continued pursuing his favorite activities: playing in and traveling around Northern California and the world. He loved to ski, fish, go to the coast, play golf and poker with his friends, go to the gym and volunteer at the local food locker, and ultimately play with his grandkids.

Jim taught his children the value of enjoying life, and maintaining contact with family and friends. One memorable trip that defined his dedication to good times was a weeklong tour of California amusement parks.

His youthful spirit and pursuit of happiness will be sorely missed, but will be remembered whenever we do the things he loved.

James Morlock is survived by his sister Mary Ann Lawhon of St. Joseph, MO, children Kenneth Morlock of Davis, CA, Kellie Morlock of Half Moon Bay, CA, Deborah Morlock of Menlo Park, CA, Nicholas Morlock (Annalesa) of Carmichael, CA, and grandchildren Von and Beau Morlock. He also has dozens of nieces and nephews throughout the midwest and south.
