You crossed my mind today as I was surfing the net for voice over opportunities. Throughout my life since first knowing you in 1972 in my freshman year at Coronado when you chose me to play Gwendolyn in The Odd Couple, the thought of "Mr. Newcomer" brings a smile to my face as my heart overflows with warm memories. Memories in the classroom and on the stage, listening so intently to your excited voice and wise words of direction. That smile and gleam in your eyes spurred me on to be the best I could be. These, Newcomer, are some of my warmest memories of my life. Thank you.

Shocked to hear the news. He was a huge influence in my life and a great mentor. I became a professional actor largely due to his influence. He held us to a professional standard while still making theatre fun. I loved him as a father and friend.

Mr. Newcomer was a truly gifted human. He inspired so many young people and truly cared beyond the capacity of most. I'll never forget when he told us in Drama 1, "even if you never become an actor, I hope that at the very least you will be able to read a story to your children with flair after my class!" I never became an actress (although I still dream:) but my kid gets hella cool story time!! What a wonderful, generous man. I will miss your spirit and I thank you for your large contribution to my world. RIP Newcomer

Jim Newcomer was a unique and special teacher. A rare quality to 'see' through the many hidden qualities of up and comers and chose to nudge students through many ways of theater arts. His influence included 1000's of students. I was one. Coronado High, Scottsdale AZ 1976-80

Looking back I can honestly say my time with Jim and the entire drama faculty at Coronado were a huge influence my life path. Love, creativity, humor, discipline, laughter and so much more helped form my world view. I am so, so lucky to have had him in my life.

Mr. Newcomer changed my life and that of my siblings, Allen, Gary and Patty, all of whom took his classes and/or starred in his productions at Coronado. If it wasn't for Jim, I wouldn't be the man I am today. Miss you so much!!!

Mr. Newcome passed his love of theatre, acting, directing, designing, and the written word to so many of us. He enhanced us, supported us in our endeavors, and ensured that we would forever love the arts...especially live/living theatre and all that encompasses.

I owe my career as a theater professional to Jim Newcomer. I have worked extensively in theater across the country and have strong ties to other professionals who are past and current Tony award nominees and winners. Had Mr. Newcomer not given me a start, trusted and nurtured me along the way then inspired me afterward, my life would be far less rich. There is no way I can adequately express the boundless gratitude I have for the effect this man had on my life. Condolences to Ron and Diane. Forgive my brevity, you know you have my prayers. --David Lee Kelting / Dallas, TX
