James Paul O'Brien

O'Brien, James Paul O'Brien, James P., age 86 of Kettering, OH passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Jim was an Industrial Abrasives Sales Representative with 3M Company for 36 years. Born and raised in Whitefish Bay, he was a 3-sport athlete at Whitefish Bay High School, and played football for Marquette University where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. He also served as a Naval officer during the Korean Conflict in the Pacific. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Barry O'Brien, parents Florence Marie Smith and John B. O'Brien, sister Margaret O'Brien Vespalec, brother David J. O'Brien, sisters-in-law Doris Neuswirth O'Brien and Margaret Wilson O'Brien, and brothers-in-law Dale A. Timm and James R. Vespalec. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Colleen O'Brien (Bob Clegg) of OH, Erin O'Brien of IN, Maureen (Dan) Rojas of CO, and Kerry (Martin) Smith of GA. Marilyn's children include Beth (Mike) Bruggeman, Claire (Dave) Rodehaver, John (Becky) Blust, and Mike (Niki) Blust, all of OH. Jim is also survived by his sisters Sr. Rosemary O'Brien, SSSF of Milwaukee, Florence Ann Timm of West Bend, brother John J. (Judith) O'Brien of Fond du Lac, sister-in-law Patricia O'Hearn Vespalec, 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. An avid golfer, Marquette fan, and Green Bay Packer backer with a passion for woodworking and working in the yard, Jim will be missed by many. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00am on Monday, December 12 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Kettering, OH. Burial, Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
