Tonight I decided to Google for my good friend, Jim, after not hearing from him. I forget to let him know that I had terminated my landline and forgot to give him my new cell phone number. His home number was no longer in use when I called. Tonight, I read of his passing, belatedly. Sorry, Jim, to miss you. I am saddened beyond belief. I'm speechless.

Everyone has had at least one teacher or instructor who made an indelible imprint on his or her life. Jim was one of those people to me. R.I.P. Jim.

I called my dad almost every day. He would always tell me about the weather and his batting statistics. Meg, I got two hits today. He loved to hear about each grandchild. He always said Hi Dot to me when I answered, just to tease me. When things were tough, he would tell me I was a tough Pollack. Words I used on him while he was recovering from open heart surgery. He carried a swim suit in his pocket, in case he found a pool he wanted to swim in. I loved his spirit. I hope I am a little like him.

A favorite person of mine. Youthful and feisty at 77, and gone way too soon. I had some really fun moments with him, and I looked up to him. Several times, we enjoyed cheap $2 wine together. It was a running joke of ours. I'm very saddened. Sheila you're the sweetest. I'm thinking of both of you.

Sheila & Family,
I learned of Jim's death this morning. I've been kind of bummed all day.
The first memory that came to mind was Jim's long Mondays, having to teach an evening class. He would leave his office around noon and head over to the K-building for lunch. There was always a student willing to pop for onion rings so Jim would sit and chat with the students at a table. I'm not sure which was of more importance to him - free onion rings or his students.
My sympathies to all affected.

Dear Aunt Sheila, Patsy, Meg, Jimmy, Spouses and Grandkids,
I have many fond memories growing up on Winnemac with you and Uncle Jim; from our ice skating rink in the yard, to playing football out front, soccer in the alley (being thrown on roof to retrieve ball, even though petrified of heights), along with trips to the beach and YMCA, all of us crammed into VW Beetle! Uncle Jim would take us trick or treating at night only if we gave him our Popcorn balls! And if people didn't answer their doorbell, we would boo them, prompted by "the only adult in the group". There were punks and firecrackers on the 4th and special occasions always brought out the movie camera with the glaring bright light. His famous W-E-I-R-D-O-O-O-O! got us all using that word. Happy memories are wonderful to have; you realize how just one person can touch so many lives, and that's what Uncle Jim did.
Lots of love to you all,
Peggy & Ed Thiel

Dear Sheila and Family,
My deepest sympathies. Jim, aka "The Sheik", was a wonderful teammate and a wonderful person. His quiet demeanor and quick wit will be dearly missed by all of us. I am sure he is standing tall in Heaven's batter's box as I write this...........May peace be with you and your family during this difficult time.

Sheila,
It has been so nice getting to know you and Jim. We are so sorry to hear the news of his passing. My heart goes out to you and your family. Jim was an incredible help to the SGWHA flower committee last summer. I always think of Jim when I add an ice cube to a glass of wine. We had dinner out last week and when we left the restaurant, Mike said "We're out the door for under $100." If we can do anything to help you, let us know.
Love, Mary Ann & Mike

Dear Sheila and Family,
My deepest sympathies. I know everyone is in shock. He could out-bike, out-walk and out-baseball friends half his age. He's probably in Heaven organizing the softball league. He'll be your guardian angel from now on. He'll always be close by when you need him.
Love,
Pat Hanrahan
