James Parolie WWII veteran of Bulge battle, 'a quiet, humble, and truly decent man' James Parolie of Mendham, N.J., and Spring Lake, N.J., passed from life on Dec. 10, 2016, enveloped in the love and respect of his adoring family. Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Rd., Wayne, on Monday, Dec. 12, from 3 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Paramus, N.J. For a photo and more information, visit vandermay.com. Born on Aug. 22, 1922, Jim "Pop" was one of seven children of Guiseppi and Mary, all of whom are deceased. A veteran of World War II, Pop was a paratrooper and medic with the 101st Airborne and was in combat in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from serving his country, he married his sweetheart, Anna Skurla. They raised four children in East Rutherford, N.J., and then Wayne, N.J., and were married 62 years when Anna passed away in 2007. Pop volunteered with the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad for 30 years. He loved the Yankees, the Giants, bowling, sitting on the porch in Spring Lake, and spending time with his family. A quiet, humble and truly decent man, Pop will remain in our hearts forever. He leaves to mourn him his son, Dr. James Parolie and his wife, Donna; his daughters, Janis O'Brien and her husband, Vincent, Lori Stampfli and her husband, Tom, Ellen Reggiani and her husband, Greg; nine grandchildren, Courtney, James, Christopher, Jennifer, Lauren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Alexandra, and Casandra; five great-grandchildren, Griffin, Cameron, Brody, Ryan, and Harper; nieces and nephews; his nephew and cherished friend, Roy Carbone, and his loyal and invaluable caregiver, Bing. Memorial donations in Pop's honor would be appreciated to either the The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, Mass., 02241-7005 or to the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 2004, Wayne, N.J. 07474.

Janice,
I'm sorry to hear of the death of your father. Even though I didn't know him well, I'll always remember how he reversed the numbers 93 on his birthday cake, which to me was a glimpse into his wonderful sense of humor. My sympathies and prayers are with you Vince and the rest of your family at this time.
