James Pergantis Obituary
Born in Andros, Greece, on Jan. 1, 1931, he was a son of Maria and Giannoulis Pergantis.
He immigrated to the United States on Aug. 10, 1949, and married the former Diamondo (Diana) Rigas in Jersey City, N.J., on April 27, 1952. She predeceased him in 2000. Formerly of Hoboken, N.J., Watertown, Mass., Miami and Clearwater, Fla., he moved in 2006 to Reading to be near his son, Andrew.
James is survived by his two sons, John Pergantis of Clearwater, Fla.; and Andrew Pergantis, and his wife, Penelope, Reading; and his daughter, Catherine Metropoulos, and her husband, Evan, Charlotte, Vt.; three grandchildren: Christina, Angela and James Met-ropoulos, and a great-grandson, Kayden Evan Met-ropoulos, all of Vermont; three brothers and a sister: George Pergantis, Brookline, Mass.; Michael Pergantis, Arlington, Mass.; Louis Pergantis, Andros, Greece; and Polixheni Vartholomeou, Andros, Greece.
Donations are preferred in lieu of flowers made in memory of James Pergantis to: Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston, Metropolitan Methodios Diocese Camp for Children, 162 Goddard Ave., Brookline, MA 02445, or The Children's Advocacy Center for Child Victims of Crime, 50 Cherry Street, Suite 102, Burlington, VT 05401.
Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. at SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Reading. Burial will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the family plot in Serenity Gardens Memorial Park in Largo, Fla.
Auman Funeral Home, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
