James E. Phelan, 95, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23 in Las Vegas surrounded by family. Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Jim also known as "Lefty", served in the US Army and was retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was a member of Tuscarora Golf Club in Camillus for over 15 years.
During his 35 year retirement in Lake Havasu, Jim enjoyed year round golfing and working as a course ranger, traveling the west coast and enjoying the desert climate. He and his loving wife, Annie, were always known as the inseparable couple that made frequent trips to Laughlin. Jim not only was an avid golfer but was a big fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In addition, he was an active participant in the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Annie (Benedetto), two sons, James E, (Linda) Phelan Jr. of Virginia, Jeffrey (Diane) Phelan of Liverpool; his grandchildren, Christopher (Shelby) Phelan, Holly Rose, Jennifer Phelan (Ryan) Boomer and Paul Phelan; great-grandchildren, Peyton Rose, Connor and Stella Phelan and Grayson Boomer. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Phelan, Ellen Kirsch and Clara Pfrang, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jim's life will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 3 at St. Margaret's Church, 203 Roxboro Road, Mattydale, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Valley Hospital, Las Vegas, for their care and compassion.
