Poelstra, James Grand Rapids, Michigan James Theodore Poelstra, age 75, of Caledonia, MI, passed to Glory on Friday morning, August 20, 2021, and rose to heaven where he has finally been healed and can now play tennis and talk freely! He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa and brother. He served others his entire career, and many years beyond, with 30 years of service at the Kent County Department of Human Services. He also served at Caledonia Christian Reformed Church as a Deacon and advocate by supporting the broken-hearted and helping community members find jobs and resources throughout the area he served. He was passionate about Christ, sports, helping others, and especially his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Carolyn Poelstra. Jim is survived by his wife, Susan, daughter, Julie Zimmerman and her husband Dave, son, Jeff Poelstra and his wife Carmen. Jim has 2 adored grandchildren, Carly Zimmerman and Ian Poelstra. Jim is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Decker, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. The visitation and service will be held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546). All family, loved ones, and anyone who has known Jim is welcome to attend the visitation on Friday afternoon, August 27, 2021 from 3:30-5:15 PM, with the Celebration of Life service following this at 5:15 PM for anyone who would like to attend. If one wishes, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Streams of Hope (https://streamsofhope.org/support/) or the American Heart Association of West Michigan (https://www.heart.org/en/affiliates/michigan/western-michigan).
