James Pooser, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2023.
James "Jimmie/Jim" Manning Pooser, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on May 18, 2023. He was born on March 17, 1949, to James Manning Pooser, Sr. and Miriam Creech Pooser in Charleston, SC. He attended First Baptist High School where he met his wife of 55 years, Carol Tilson Pooser. While in school, he worked as an organist, a school bus driver, and a printer. Upon graduation in 1967, Jim married Carol and enrolled at the University of South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 and began his career as an accountant. Together, Jim and Carol earned MBA's from the Citadel in 1994. His diverse career included positions as a public accountant, auditor, communications executive, utility management executive, hospital administrator, campus dean and business instructor. He retired from Trident Technical College in North Charleston, SC in 1999.

Jim was a talented musician. He played any instrument with keys and shared his talents in several churches. These musical gifts were also shared by playing for many weddings, funerals, and other celebrations. Additionally, Jim was a talented chef, cake decorator, and crocheter. His collection of gadgets, appliances and electronics was unrivaled. He had a love for animals of all types and had a variety of pets throughout his life. Although his many hobbies and interests kept him busy, he mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jim lived most of his life in Charleston and Berkeley counties of South Carolina. He also enjoyed a condo in North Myrtle Beach where he and Carol kept a second home. In July of 2020, they moved to Austin, Texas to be close to their family. He remained there until his passing.

Jim is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Lisa Sterrett (Mack), grandson Ryan Chapman (Sarah), granddaughters Brooke Butler (Wyatt), Bailey Quigley (Scott), Brittany Kuhn and four great-grandchildren with two more on the way. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Harborview Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC. His ashes will be scattered privately the day prior. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Three Oaks Hospice of Austin at https://www.threeoakshospice.com/foundation/.
